CHEP helps move more goods to more people, in more places than any other organization on earth via our 347 million pallets, crates and containers. We employ approximately 13,000 people and operate in 60 countries. Through our pioneering and sustainable share-and-reuse business model, the world’s biggest brands trust us to help them transport their goods more efficiently, safely and with less environmental impact.

And you can maximize your work-life balance and flexibility through our Hybrid Work Model.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Provide reliable, cost-effective, and timely legal counsel to business units across a wide array of matters affecting the region and the global corporation.
- Advise on and negotiate commercial transactions, contracts, and agreements with key customers, vendors, and service providers, ensuring alignment with business goals and legal standards.
- Offer strategic legal guidance on major transactions, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), with a focus on identifying risks and conducting necessary due diligence.
- Manage day-to-day legal issues for business operations, including matters related to plant operations, logistics, asset management, and real estate (e.g., leases, property agreements).
- Anticipate, mitigate, and manage legal risks by providing proactive legal strategies and monitoring emerging legal trends that may impact the business.
- Lead the company’s litigation strategy, manage disputes, and handle intellectual property rights issues, leveraging external counsel when necessary.
- Support the development of company policy, operational improvements, and procedural enhancements by providing legal insights on regulatory compliance and business operations.
- Research and monitor evolving legal issues, using external counsel where needed, to provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice to senior leadership.
At CHEP, we're looking for a commercially savvy legal leader to take ownership of legal strategy and business partnership across one of our most diverse and dynamic regions. This is not a traditional in-house legal role, but an exciting blend of strategic influence, commercial partnership and hands-on legal leadership.
As Senior Legal Counsel, AMET, you'll be the lead lawyer supporting businesses across Africa, the Middle East and Türkiye, partnering directly with regional and country leadership teams to help navigate complexity, unlock opportunities and protect the business as we continue to grow. You'll sit at the intersection of strategy, commercial decision-making and risk management, influencing critical business decisions while building trusted relationships across multiple markets and cultures.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead all legal matters across the AMET region
- Provide commercially pragmatic legal advice to business leaders
- Negotiate and advise on significant commercial contracts and transactions
- Drive legal and regulatory compliance initiatives
- Manage disputes, litigation strategy and external counsel
- Partner with global legal specialists and cross-functional teams
- Support the strategic growth agenda of the business while managing risk responsibly
What You'll Bring
- Qualified legal practitioner admitted in South Africa
- At least 10 years' legal experience
- Strong commercial law and negotiation expertise
- Experience operating across multiple jurisdictions
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- A pragmatic, business-first approach to problem solving
Ready to Lead?
If you're a commercially astute legal professional seeking broader regional ownership, greater strategic influence and an opportunity to make a lasting impact, we'd love to hear from you.
