Description

About the role

Trafigura's container shipping activity sits within the Chartering Department, under Shipping Division Management. As Commercial Container Shipping Specialist you will help grow that activity across your assigned regions and trades, combining regional freight strategy, logistics optimisation and long-term partnerships with shipping stakeholders. It is a commercially driven role for someone who reads the market closely and turns that reading into better freight decisions for the Group.

What you will do

  • Support the expansion of the container shipping activity across assigned regions and trades.
  • Identify and monitor shipping flows, trade patterns and freight market opportunities.
  • Implement regional strategies aimed at improving freight efficiency and controlling logistics costs.
  • Negotiate freight rates, service agreements, space allocations, credit terms and commercial conditions with shipping providers.
  • Build and maintain strong commercial relationships with shipping lines, NVOCCs, freight forwarders, terminals and logistics partners.
  • Analyse market trends, carrier capacity, freight developments, congestion and regional supply chain dynamics.
  • Benchmark freight levels and measure carrier performance and service quality across trades and providers.
  • Prepare freight market analyses, trade performance recaps and logistics intelligence reports on a regular basis.
  • Provide strategic recommendations based on freight market movements, geopolitical events and supply chain disruptions.
  • Support internal stakeholders with transportation solutions and market guidance, contributing to freight procurement initiatives and to the Group's logistics optimisation objectives.

What we are looking for

  • At least five years of experience in commercial and operational roles within container shipping, freight forwarding, NVOCC or liner shipping.
  • Solid knowledge of global container shipping markets and trade flows.
  • Strong command of Incoterms, liner terms, freight structures and international shipping practice.
  • A commercial mindset with a proven negotiation track record.
  • Strong analytical and market intelligence skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management, with the ability to build relationships that last.
  • Fluent English and Spanish; Portuguese is a plus.
  • Organised, proactive and solution-oriented, comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced international environment.
