Expert Software Engineer – Filtering Automation

As an Expert Software Engineer within the Filtering Automation Team, you will own the technical direction and evolution of ING's filtering automation capabilities. You will lead the design and development of automation solutions that enable scalable, secure, and policy-driven filtering services across the organisation.

The team
You will act as the technical authority for the team, working closely with Network Engineering, CISO Architecture, Security Engineering, and other stakeholders to define architecture, establish engineering standards, and drive implementation excellence.

This role is suited for an experienced engineer who combines deep software engineering expertise with strong architectural thinking and a passion for automation at scale.

Roles and responsibilities
The following responsibilities are required for this role: 

• Lead the technical vision and development roadmap for filtering automation solutions.
• Drive architectural alignment with Network Engineering and CISO Architecture stakeholders.
• Design and implement secure, scalable, and resilient automation services.
• Define engineering standards, patterns, and best practices for the team.
• Provide technical leadership and coaching to engineers within the domain.
• Ensure solutions are built using modern software engineering practices, including test-driven development, automation, and continuous delivery.
• Contribute to strategic discussions regarding filtering policies, consent models, and security controls.
• Drive continuous improvement of automation platforms, operational processes, and developer experience.
• Act as a recognised subject matter expert inside and outside the team.

Required Experience

• Strong experience with modelling concepts like domain driven design, bounded contexts & context mapping.
• Extensive experience developing software solutions in Go and Kotlin.
• Strong advocate of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and modern engineering practices.
• Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, including:
• Configuration and Secrets management
• Focus on Networking concepts
• Strong experience with Terraform, including:
• Designing Terraform modules
• Extending or creating custom Terraform providers
• Developing solutions in Go using the Terraform Plugin Framework
• Experience designing and operating secure, cloud-native platforms.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to drive technical decisions across multiple teams and domains.

Preferred Experience

• Understanding of Dataspace Mutual Consent principles.
• Experience designing and implementing filtering architectures and filtering processes.
• Experience working in highly regulated or security-sensitive environments.
• Knowledge of network security controls and policy automation.
• Experience collaborating with architecture functions and security organisations.
