Description

Minimum 1–2 Years' Experience | Multiple Locations | Career Development & Excellent Benefits

The Vet Office is recruiting Small Animal Veterinary Surgeons for a range of veterinary practices and hospitals across Ireland.

We currently have opportunities available in different cities and regions throughout the country for veterinarians looking to develop their careers in Ireland while joining modern practices and supportive veterinary teams offering excellent opportunities for professional development and training.

These positions are suitable for veterinarians with at least 1–2 years of clinical experience who are reasonably confident working independently in consultations and are able to perform some routine small animal surgical procedures.

You do not need to be an experienced surgeon or have advanced surgical skills.

What are the practices looking for?

Depending on the position, your responsibilities may include:

  • General practice consultations.
  • Preventive medicine.
  • Diagnosis and development of treatment plans.
  • Management of hospitalised patients.
  • Emergency cases.
  • Diagnostic imaging.
  • Analysis and interpretation of laboratory results.
  • Routine small animal surgery.
  • Spays and castrations.
  • Basic soft tissue procedures.

Practices particularly value veterinarians who are confident managing consultations independently and have some experience performing routine surgical procedures.

Advanced surgical skills are not required, as many practices provide support and mentoring to help veterinarians continue developing their surgical confidence and abilities.

What do the practices offer?

Packages vary depending on experience, location and individual practice, but opportunities may include:

  • Salaries between €3,000 and €6,000 per month, depending on experience and position.
  • Permanent contracts and stable, long-term positions.
  • Approximately 37.5–40 working hours per week.
  • Well-organised rotas designed to promote a good work-life balance.
  • Accommodation or assistance finding accommodation for selected positions.
  • Payment or financial support towards professional registration in Ireland.
  • Professional indemnity insurance.
  • Annual CPD allowance and continuing education.
  • Support towards certificates, postgraduate qualifications and specialisations.
  • Between 20 and 30 days of annual leave, depending on the practice.
  • Pension schemes depending on the employer.
  • Excellent opportunities for career progression.
  • Opportunities to develop individual clinical and surgical interests.

The exact salary and benefits package will depend on the candidate's experience and the specific position.

Important: English Level & Professional Registration

To work as a veterinarian in Ireland, you must be registered with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI).

Candidates should have a good level of English, approximately C1, allowing them to communicate confidently with clients and colleagues and work safely within a clinical environment.

Depending on the candidate's academic and professional background, they may be required to officially demonstrate their English proficiency through IELTS, OET or another English language qualification accepted by the VCI.

Veterinarians who have not yet completed an English language examination are also welcome to apply, provided they are willing to prepare for and obtain the required certification to complete their professional registration.

The Vet Office provides guidance and support throughout the professional registration process in Ireland.

Requirements

  • Veterinary degree eligible for professional registration in Ireland.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of small animal clinical experience.
  • Confidence working independently in general practice consultations.
  • Experience performing some routine surgical procedures.
  • Advanced surgical experience is not required.
  • C1 level of English or equivalent.
  • Willingness to obtain IELTS, OET or another VCI-accepted English qualification where required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Motivation to relocate to Ireland and develop a long-term veterinary career.
