Overview
The Clinical Coordinator works under the direction of the leadership team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence, facility goals and strategic plans. The Clinical Coordinator provides clinical and operational leadership for the unit and serves as a resource to nursing staff, patients, families, physicians and interdisciplinary team members. This role is responsible for coordinating safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care while supporting staffing, patient flow, staff development quality improvement, patient experience, and departmental goals. The Clinical Coordinator promotes a collaborative work environment, supports accountability among team members, and serves as a liaison between frontline staff and department leadership.

What you will do

  • Staffing and Assignment Management: Develops and adjusts daily staffing assignments based on census, acuity, and operational needs. Coordinates breaks and meal period while maintaining safe patient coverage. Communicates staffing concerns and resource needs to director.
  • Patient Flow and Throughput: Coordinates timely admissions, transfers, discharges, and changes in patient placement. Collaborates with physicians, case management, nursing, ancillary departments, and other interdisciplinary partners to promote efficient patient flow.
  • Quality and Patient Safety: Conducts or facilitates shift safety huddles and communicates identified risks to the appropriate leadership. Promotes compliance with fall prevention, pressure injury prevention, infection prevention, and other patient safety initiatives. Participates in audits, quality initiatives, and performance improvement activities. Monitors compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
  • Patient Experience: Rounds on patients and responds promptly to concerns or needs. Escalates unresolved concerns appropriately. Supports department initiatives designed to improve patient satisfaction and outcomes.
  • Staff Leadership & Development: Facilitates a collaborative work environment and promotes teamwork among nursing and interdisciplinary staff. Provides real-time coaching, mentoring and feedback to team members. Supports onboarding, orientation, competency validation, and ongoing staff development. Serves as a clinical resource and mentor. Identifies educational needs.
  • Communication and Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Serves as a liaison between frontline nursing staff and leadership. Communicates significant clinical, staffing, operational, safety, and patient experience concerns appropriate leadership. Promotes effective shift to shift handoff and continuity of care. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds to coordinate patient care.
  • Department Operations and Productivity: Monitors department’ productivity, efficiency, staffing utilization, and workflow. Participates in department meetings, committees, and organizational initiatives as assigned.
  • Documentation & Regulatory Compliance: Promotes timely, accurate, and complete nursing documentation. Monitors compliance with required documentation standards. Participates in chart audits and other compliance monitoring activities. Maintains knowledge of current organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practices. Supports readiness for accreditation surveys.

Qualifications

Education

  • Associates Degree, Nursing (Required)
  • Bachelors Degree, Nursing (Preferred)
  • Program Graduate, Registered Nurse (Required)


Experience

  • 1 year RN Experience (Required)


Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) (Required)
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
