We are seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) sometimes referred to as a Certified Surgical Tech First Assist (CST/First Assistant) or Surgical First Assistant (SFA) in our operating room. The Certified Surgical First Assistant (CFSA) works directly alongside the surgeon in the operating room, helping position and prep the patient, maintaining the sterile field, and assisting with instruments throughout the procedure. First Assistant’s actively participate in surgery by providing exposure, controlling bleeding, suturing, closing incisions, and anticipating the surgeon’s needs to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality surgical care. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/PRN as needed.

** In order to move forward in this position as a Surgical First Assist you must have obtained the credential as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA).
- Assist the surgeon directly during the procedure to support safe and efficient surgical outcomes
- Provide exposure to the surgical site through retraction, suctioning, camera guidance, instrument positioning and tissue manipulation
- Control bleeding throughout the case by clamping, tying, cauterizing or applying targeted pressure based on the surgeon’s direction
- Perform suturing, stapling, incision closures, drain placements and apply surgical dressings at the completion of the procedure
- Position and prep the patient for surgery while maintaining a proper sterile field and anticipating the surgeon’s needs before they are requested
Qualifications

1. Certification in Surgical Technology/Certified First Assistant.
2. Successful completion of a training program in a recognized First Assistant program.
3. Five years’ experience in an acute care operating room in the scrub role, preferred.
• Must be proficient in the following specialties: Major Vascular, Thoracic, Open Heart, Orthopedics, OB/GYN, General
4. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider affirmation by American Heart Association.
5. Basic computer skills.
