Description
- Completes daily repairs and preventative maintenance to County Recreation Parks and Facilities.
- Landscaping duties to include, but are not limited to, applying weed killer and trimming shrubs, hedges, evergreens, and ornamental trees.
- Grass cutting, edging, and weeding of the recreation park, including ball fields, soccer fields, gun range, 360 property, and boat ramp.
- Maintain the nature walking trail, remove any debris which would impede the use of the trail.
- Clean and maintain dog park.
- Maintain the facilities and buildings in the Recreation Park.
- Trash removal and disposal daily in all areas of the Recreation Park.
- Dragging the infields of the ball fields.
- Inspect playground equipment for damage or needed repairs.
- Interact with and support outside vendors and contractors.
- Turf management plan.
- Complete work orders for corrective maintenance in a timely manner.
- Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on ballfields, playground, parking areas, trails and picnic pavilion.
- Perform interior and exterior surface painting and related preparation and clean-up.
- Interact with employees and citizens in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
- Use knowledge and experience to recommend future improvement projects.
- Determine need to report observed safety or health issues to supervisor.
- Maintain knowledge of health and safety requirements.
- Completes routine maintenance tasks such on machinery used to maintain the park facilities and grounds. If maintenance can't be completed on site, notify supervisor of needed outside vendor repairs.
- Participate in inspections of real property and grounds.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Landscaping at all facilities/buildings.
- Assist the facilities department with various jobs, moving equipment, building maintenance/repairs, snow removal, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is physical work requiring exertion in excess of 100 pounds occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force regularly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, feeling, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, night vision, peripheral vision, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm’s length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma required with additional training in a technical program preferred. Previous work-related experience desired. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable.
Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia Driver's License (job-related driving of County vehicles is required). Ability to operate a tractor, bush hog, and grader box.
Ability to operate truck with trailer, zero turn mower, weed eater, chain saw, and power tools.
EMPLOYEE UTILIZATION IN ADVERSE WEATHER AND EMERGENCY CONDITIONS
All King William County employees are subject to being assigned to specific positions and tasks during a “Declared Emergency” as support personnel, by the County Administrator. Once assigned, this would be the same as a regular work assignment and all policies and procedures for duty assignments apply.
