Job Summary and Responsibilities

• Demonstrates ability to assess/interpret age-specific data.
• Encourages involvement of patient/family/significant other in decision making related to plan of care: 1. identifies patient/caregiver teaching needs 2. identifies patient safety issues
• Performs the priority (frequent high risk) procedures for the assigned patients or areas safely without causing harm legally within the scope of practice and SMMC policy and in a manner perceived as satisfying by the patient and family.
• Performs all procedures for the assigned patients or areas: 1. efficiently using the fewest possible resources 2. effectively achieving the intended results. Identifies actual and potentially unsafe care practices, initiates actions as appropriate to prevent or correct and reports in a timely manner.
• Documents in accordance with SMMC policy and procedure in a timely manner the following information: 1. initial and subsequent assessment and data 2. interventions 3. patient response and outcome 4. unusual occurrences
• Gives a rationale for routine patient care actions and decisions taken or not taken based on scientific principles or logic, standards of practice and approved protocols.

Job Requirements

Required

• At least one year of ICU experience
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification - American Heart Association

Preferred

• Certified Critical Care nurse (Adult, Neonatal OR Pediatrics)
