**This posting is for reallocation open to History Colorado internal staff only**The Facilities Specialist IV (Operations Lead) serves as the on-site operational lead responsible for coordinating and directing day-to-day facilities operations at the History Colorado Center.
This position ensures the effective execution of maintenance and cleaning activities, work order management, and staff deployment in real time to support safe, functional, and responsive building operations.
Operating within established policies, procedures, and strategic direction set by the Deputy Director of Facilities and Senior Director of Facilities and Capital Planning, this role exercises independent judgment in prioritizing work, allocating resources, and responding to emergent operational needs.
This position provides operational leadership during assigned shifts and plays a critical role in maintaining continuity of services, particularly during evenings, weekends, and periods of limited supervisory presence.
The Facilities Division is responsible for the management, maintenance, preservation, and strategic planning of all History Colorado facilities and infrastructure. This includes statewide building operations, capital construction, controlled maintenance, deferred maintenance planning, and long-range facility investment.
Work includes but is not limited to the following:
Brief Duty Description:
Job Duty 1
Coordinates and directs daily facilities operations, including work order management, dispatch, and execution of maintenance activities.
Prioritizes incoming work orders based on urgency, safety, and operational impact
Assigns and reassigns work to Facilities Specialists throughout the day
Adjusts workflows in response to changing building conditions
Ensures timely completion of maintenance and service requests
Managing competing operational priorities in a dynamic environment
Balancing planned and reactive maintenance needs
Maintaining service levels during high-demand periods
Ensuring consistent execution of work across multiple staff
Job Duty 2
Provides real-time coordination and direction of Facilities Specialists and security personnel to maintain operational continuity.
Adjusts staffing assignments based on operational needs and availability
Identifies coverage gaps and implements immediate solutions
Directs staff activities during routine operations and emergent situations
Coordinates activities across facilities and security functions
Responding to unplanned absences and staffing shortages
Maintaining adequate coverage across building operations
Making time-sensitive decisions with limited information
Ensuring continuity of operations across all shifts, including nights and weekends.
Job Duty 3
Monitors staff attendance in real time and implements operational adjustments to maintain service levels.
Tracks attendance issues such as absences, tardiness, and early departures
Communicates attendance concerns to Deputy Director for follow-up
Adjusts staffing plans and assignments to maintain coverage
Identifies patterns or recurring issues for escalation
Managing operational disruptions caused by staffing gaps
Ensuring timely communication of attendance issues
Maintaining accountability without formal supervisory authority
Balancing operational needs with established policies and procedures
Job Duty 4
Responds to facility-related incidents and coordinates immediate operational actions.
Initiates response to building system issues, safety concerns, or operational disruptions
Coordinates staff response during incidents
Communicates with leadership and security personnel as needed
Implements interim solutions to stabilize conditions
Making rapid decisions in high-pressure situations
Coordinating multiple staff and priorities simultaneously
Ensuring safety while maintaining operational continuity
Operating within established emergency procedures

Salary Range:
$67,500.00 Annually
Minimum Requirements:
*Six (6) years of full-time professional experience in facilities operations, security, building maintenance, skilled trades, construction, or a closely related field.
*Experience must include at least two (2) years of progressively responsible facilities experience involving work coordination, prioritization, incident response, and/or providing operational direction to others.
*Experience must include at least two (2) years of security experience in a museum setting.
*Proven experience prioritizing and coordinating facilities work based on safety, urgency, and operational impact.
*Proven experience coordinating staff, vendors, contractors, or operational coverage.
*Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
Substitutions:
Relevant education or technical/trade training may substitute for up to two (2) years of the general experience requirement.
Education may not substitute for the required two (2) years of progressively responsible museum facilities operations experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
*Experience serving as a lead worker, shift lead, facilities coordinator, or similar role.
*Experience working in a large, complex, public-facing or institutional facility.
*Experience with work-order systems, building automation systems, access control, security systems, and general building operations.
*Relevant experience working for the State of Colorado or another public-sector organization.
