Electrical Engineer II
The purpose of this position is to perform electrical design of projects including lighting, motor control, electrical circuitry, special systems (fire alarm, security, and both low and high voltage power distribution). This position provides engineering support to the campus Major Projects Architect, planning department, shops, outside consulting architects, and contractors during all project phases of planning, design, plan review and construction. This position ensures project quality control and adherence to plans and specifications as well as qualify products and product vendors for inclusion with campus projects. It also assists the Electrical Engineering Manager in electrical engineering functions, including system analysis, planning, engineering design, construction management, troubleshooting, strategic planning, and recommending projects to improve and maintain system integrity, reliability and cost effectiveness.
This position requires to be fully on-site at the assigned campus location.
What you'll do in this position
- Translate needs into working design documents. Coordinates and designs electrical components of projects
- Design electrical engineering plans for small projects (e.g. routine updates, aesthetic changes, etc.) and complex projects (e.g. major renovations, new buildings, etc.) of a wide variety with emphasis in interior lighting for remodels, retrofits, and other in-house projects. Supports coordination team to help develop/outline plans
- Complete Cost Estimates for required projects
- Inspect electrical installations and conformance with National Electrical Code for projects assigned
- Maintain Campus CNA database for primary and secondary voltage equipment, lighting, electrical equipment, fire alarm, and security systems
- Assist Electrical Shop with electrical engineering problems
- Coordinate project details with campus departments, contractors, architects, engineers, Provo City, and owners
- Review and stamp electrical engineering designs
What qualifies you for this role
Required:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Broad experience in construction methods and procedures
- In-depth comprehension of National Electrical Code, ADA applicability affecting facility planning and IES illumination standards
- Must have the ability to work with a variety of individuals in a coordinating function while subjected to others perspectives and opinions
- Experience in electrical design with commensurate CAD and REVIT skills
- Extensive lighting design in wide-range of challenging applications
Preferred:
- P.E. License and 10 years of Electrical Engineering experience.
- Extensive medium and high voltage design

Pay Grade: 55
Typical Starting Pay: $94,000.00 to $122,000.00 annually
