Who are we? 

The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) is a sovereign tribe located in the metropolitan Phoenix area. Bounded by the cities of Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa and Fountain Hills, the Community serves over 11,000 tribal members, and all persons conducting business over approximately 96 square miles area of residential, agricultural and commercial lands, as a full-service government entity.

What the job looks like:

• Provide individual and group behavioral health counseling using culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and strength-based approaches.
• Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and monitor participant progress through the phases of Wellness Court.
• Incorporate cultural teachings, community resources, traditional healing practices (when appropriate), and holistic wellness principles into care planning.
• Collaborate with tribal partners, cultural advisors, probation, case managers, and court teams to support participant success.
• Attend staff meetings and Wellness Court hearings to provide clinical insight and progress updates.
• Support participants in accessing culturally relevant services such as ceremony, community healing groups, peer recovery support, housing, and education/employment resources.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with clinical, tribal, and court program standards.
• Foster trust and build rapport by respecting cultural identity, historical trauma, and community values that influence healing.

What you have: 

We are seeking a compassionate and culturally responsive Behavioral Health Counselor to serve as the Wellness Counselor for the Adult Wellness Court and Juvenile Wellness Court. This role provides therapeutic support and case management for Native American participants involved in specialty court programs focused on healing, accountability, and long-term recovery.

The ideal candidate is trauma-informed, collaborative, and committed to honoring community values and cultural traditions in the treatment process. The candidate will be under the Re-Entry Team and will assist with completing assessments, individual and group therapy at Department of Corrections as needed.

What you need: 

• Masters degree in counseling, social work or closely related counseling area required.
• One year of required direct counseling experience.
• Must possess and maintain valid BLS certification on first day of patient care.
• Current Behavioral Health licensure, or eligible:
  1. Behavioral Health Counselor I - $62,007.00 to 83,706.00 (Annually) – no license
  2. Behavioral Health Counselor II - $68,450.00 to 92,407.00 (Annually) – associate license
  3. Behavioral Health Counselor III - $71,866.00 to 97,015.00 (Annually) – independent license
