The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. This event will double as a Hiring Event for our Department. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC) is looking for skilled, dependable professionals interested in building a career in maintenance, construction, and skilled trades.

At the NC Career Expo, we are recruiting for a variety of positions that help maintain and support NCDAC facilities. Opportunities range from developing trades professionals to experienced technicians in construction, plumbing, electrical, electronics, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), and general facility maintenance.

NCDAC uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan to fill positions with the most qualified individuals. Hiring salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.

Criminal Justice Certified Positions

  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check

Education Equivalency Verification

The State of North Carolina/Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) uses the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) as a referral resource for applicants who need to have their credentials certified as equivalent.

Veterans’ and National Guard Preference

  • Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a DD-214 Member-4 Form (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to their applications.
  • Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS), along with the state application, if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing. 
  • Applicants who are former members of either the NC Army National Guard or the NC Air National Guard, with honorable discharge and six years of creditable service, must attach a copy of the DD 256 or NGB 22, along with the state application.

Maintenance/ Construction Technician I

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience associated with a variety of mechanical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Necessary Special Requirements

May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Maintenance/Construction Technician II

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Maintenance/Construction Technician III

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Maintenance/Construction Technician IV

High school or General Educational Development diploma and two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Requirements

May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Plumber I

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air, water, gas or waste disposal systems

or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Plumber II

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems

or

An equivalent combination of education and experience

Electrician I

HVAC Technician I
