What You Will Do
- Perform PCB layout tasks of low to medium complexity under close guidance from senior designers
- Apply ECAD design standards, layout rules, and established workflows while completing assigned work packages
- Support schematic‑to‑layout implementation including component placement, basic routing, and constraint setup
- Maintain accuracy by minimizing repeat errors and incorporating checker/mentor feedback effectively
- Prepare and update ECAD documentation such as fabrication outputs, simple drawings, and design files
- Communicate progress clearly and seek clarification proactively to ensure work aligns with design intent
- Contribute to continuous improvement by applying lessons learned and following ECAD best practices
- Collaborate with ECAD peers in sharing task updates and implementing corrections
- Support configuration management and adherence to ECAD standards across assigned tasks
What You Will Learn
- How to apply Collins Aerospace ECAD standards, workflows, design rules, and documentation practices
- Best practices in PCB component placement, routing, and constraint‑driven design using Siemens Xpedition
- Techniques for multilayer stackup interpretation, routing strategies, and basic high‑speed design fundamentals
- How to generate and organize fabrication and assembly outputs (Gerbers, ODB++, drawings, BOMs) within our toolchain
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Test (DFT) considerations used across aerospace programs
- How ECAD integrates with Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Quality teams through structured cross‑functional reviews
- Effective use of PLM systems and configuration management requirements to maintain ECAD data integrity
- How to incorporate reviewer feedback, perform corrections efficiently, and communicate progress in a professional engineering environment
- Advanced Xpedition features over time (constraint manager, tuning, differential pairs, HDI workflows, plane strategies) under mentorship from experienced ECAD designers
- The end‑to‑end lifecycle of PCB design at Collins Aerospace, from schematic integration through manufacturing release.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
- Experience with PCB layout using ECAD tools, including Siemens Xpedition (Mentor / Expedition / Xpedition)
- Ability to perform PCB placement, routing, and basic constraint management within ECAD tools
- Experience supporting multilayer PCB designs of low to medium complexity
- Familiarity with fabrication output generation (Gerbers, ODB++, or similar)
- Understanding of DFM/DFA principles and ability to apply basic manufacturability considerations
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience with Siemens Xpedition VX or 2504 versions
- Knowledge of PCB stackups, differential pairs, and impedance‑aware routing fundamentals
- Basic understanding of high‑speed or mixed‑signal layout considerations
- Experience participating in cross‑functional reviews (Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing)
- Familiarity with PLM systems and ECAD data management practices
- Experience with drafting or documentation tools (BluePrint strongly preferred)
- Exposure to regulated industries (aerospace, defense, industrial)
- Demonstrated ability to learn new ECAD tools, workflows, and standards quickly.
