The School of Religious Studies is recruiting one Grader for RELG 358: Religion and Cinema in India, for the fall 2026 semester.

Course Description:

This class offers a survey of major 20th century films from India, ranging from early devotionals and Bollywood mythologicals to art house and parallel cinema masterpieces to explore key themes in the history and religion of India with a focus on 20th century developments. Thematic topics covered include identity, gender, visual culture, and representation in the study of modern South Asian religions through a focus on India in the twentieth century through the lens of film.

Discussion focuses on a range of themes such as nationalism, devotion, and secularism. This class has no pre-requisites and assumes no prior knowledge.

Job Description:

• Weekly grading of in-class writing assignments (53 submissions) and entering grades

• Weekly entry of student contribution to oral discussion in MyCourses register

• End of term grading of final projects and enter grades (submission on Dec 1, grades due on Dec 8)

• Assist with assigning and entering grades for Engagement 1 (mid-term time) and Engagement 2 (end of term)

• Assist with assigning and entering grades for In-Class Writing 1 (mid-term time) and In-class Writing 2 (end of term)

Qualifications:

MA or Ph.D. student, ideally has taken RELG 358 in the past or prior coursework or familiarity with South Asian Studies.
