Job Description

Partners with their assigned Line of Business, other Risk/Compliance/Audit (RCA) professionals, and RCA Managers to, depending on their function, create, implement, maintain, review or oversee an effective risk management framework. Participates in projects and/or activities that ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Identifies gaps and inform solutions that minimize losses resulting from inadequate internal processes, systems or human errors. Identifies, responds and/or escalates risks as appropriate. Serves as a functional liaison between the Line of Business and the Lines of Defense.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations related to allegations of financial exploitation by gathering evidence and evaluating all relevant data with a sense of urgency and strong professional judgement.  

  • Effectively manage case workload by prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines, ensuring production expectations are met or exceeded.

  • Establish and maintain working relationships with internal stakeholders, law enforcement, social service agencies, and legal professionals to support the investigative process.

  • Conduct outreach to customers, bank associates, and other related parties to gather information and support investigations effectively.

  • Prepare investigative documentation and Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs), when applicable to report findings.

  • Provide guidance to victim customers on the appropriate courses of action and offer fraud prevention education as needed to enhance awareness and mitigate risks to both the victim and the bank.

  • Initiate and promote educational and awareness initiatives related to elder financial exploitation risks and prevention strategies within the bank and department.

  • Provide coaching, training, and support to team members as appropriate, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment.

  • Facilitate, lead, and participate in meetings to discuss case progress and investigative and operational strategies.

  • Maintain diligent records of investigations and outcomes to ensure compliance with legal requirements, bank policies, and regulatory standards.

  • Remain current on emerging risks and trends through continuous education and training to enhance investigative effectiveness. 

  • Adhere to and comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulatory requirements, bank policies, and internal procedures and guidance.

  • Perform the day-to-day duties of the Team Lead in their absence to ensure seamless operations within the team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Typically more than two years of applicable experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of laws, policies, and FinCEN advisories covering elder financial exploitation.

  • Strong understanding of banking practices, financial regulations, and fraud prevention techniques to identify exploitation and risks.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to independently investigate allegations of financial exploitation, draw logical conclusions, and document actions and findings in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.

  • Skilled in assessing complex situations and developing effective solutions, including intervention opportunities that effectively address issues of financial exploitation.

  • Expertise in establishing trust and rapport with elderly and vulnerable victims while maintaining professional objectivity and sensitivity during questioning and discussions.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for outreach to victims, writing reports, and providing testimony in legal settings.

  • Proven experience working in cross-functional teams to address cases holistically, fostering effective partnerships with law enforcement officials, social service agencies, and legal professionals.

  • Ability to initiate outreach initiatives that promote awareness and prevention strategies against financial exploitation.

  • Strong time management and organizational skills, ensuring effective task prioritization and completion.

  • Preferred professional certification(s): Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Financial Crimes Investigator (CFCI), Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Certification.

*This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $66,640.00 - $78,400.00
