Hourly researcher position to work at the Space Science Center within the CME group on the analysis of data from satellites and the publication and presentation of results with funding from federal grants and under the supervision of research professors. The researcher will analyze multi-spacecraft measurements of solar wind plasma and magnetic field as well as suprathermal and energetic particles from STEREO-A, Solar Orbiter and NASA L1 assets and analyze remote-sensing observations from LASCO and STEREO-A. The researcher will collaborate with members of the CME group, including graduate students, post-doctoral researchers and research professors.
Duties/Responsibilities
(45%)
Perform analyses of multi-spacecraft measurements of solar wind plasma and magnetic field as well as suprathermal and energetic particles from STEREO-A, Solar Orbiter and NASA L1 assets.
(15%)
Perform analyses of remote-sensing measurements of coronal mass ejections by white-light coronagraphs as well as solar active regions by magnetographs and EUV imagers.
(15%)
Prepare peer-review presentations and public presentations to present the results and attend conferences and workshops.
(15%)
Collaborate with other researchers from the CME group to work on advancing our understanding of solar eruptions and coronal mass ejections.
Attend weekly team meetings and smaller work meetings.
(10%)
Read articles and stay up to date with the state of the field
Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
PhD or Master’s degree + 2 years of experience performing research as exemplified by first-authored peer-reviewed publications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Data analysis skills, including data visualization in IDL or Python.
Scientific writing, as shown by first-authored peer-review publications.
Analysis of in-situ and remote-sensing measurements of coronal mass ejections, and/or interplanetary shocks, solar wind plasma and/or suprathermal and energetic particles.
Scientific presentations, as shown by first-authored poster and/or oral presentations at relevant meetings such as AGU, EGU, COSPAR, SHINE, SPD.
Compensation Pay Range:
$28 hourly
