The Role
The Reliability Engineer is responsible for defining criteria for the implementation and standardization of reliability engineering techniques, promoting best practices through short, medium, and long-term strategies focused on reducing equipment and system failures, particularly on critical assets. This role ensures operational efficiency, equipment reliability, and process continuity across the plant while maximizing profitability and fostering a TPM culture. The position also supports the Tooling Department in meeting maintenance programs and improving tooling service levels.
What You'll Do
- Analyze asset performance data and maintenance processes to identify improvement opportunities.
- Review historical failure data, including downtime and frequency trends.
- Identify critical failure modes based on frequency, duration, and business impact.
- Participate in equipment and component failure analysis, generating recommendations and action plans.
- Apply reliability and process improvement methodologies to resolve chronic and repetitive failures.
- Develop, update, and maintain preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies.
- Create, modify, and maintain maintenance plans, route sheets, and maintenance tasks.
- Evaluate asset criticality and establish reliability strategies for critical equipment.
- Ensure critical assets have mandatory spare parts strategies and maintenance plans in place.
- Analyze equipment lifecycle data to determine remaining useful life and replacement strategies.
- Monitor equipment obsolescence and communicate risks associated with unsupported systems and components.
- Develop maintenance plans and reliability strategies for new equipment.
- Extract and apply OEM recommendations from equipment manuals and technical documentation.
- Maintain and update technical documentation, including drawings, operating manuals, spare parts manuals, and P&IDs.
- Manage the maintenance technical library and reliability documentation.
- Audit maintenance execution to ensure compliance with maintenance plans and design intent.
- Define maintenance tasks resulting from Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM/RCT), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and other improvement methodologies.
- Facilitate and participate in Root Cause Analysis investigations.
- Document findings, recommendations, and lessons learned from failure analyses.
- Manage redesign evaluations, improvement initiatives, and maintenance optimization projects.
- Review and approve spare parts additions, modifications, and deletions to support reliability strategies.
- Optimize maintenance frequencies based on asset performance and reliability data.
- Manage improvement work orders for equipment and process enhancements.
- Evaluate maintenance effectiveness and monitor daily performance of critical assets.
- Assess and prioritize continuous improvement ideas related to equipment reliability and maintainability.
- Develop and track maintenance and reliability KPIs.
- Capture and institutionalize technical knowledge gained from failures, maintenance execution, and improvement projects.
- Identify and escalate obsolescence risks that could impact mechanical, electrical, or control system reliability.
- Apply methodologies to determine maintenance strategies that ensure asset functionality, availability, and reliability.
- Lead the implementation of Reliability Engineering programs and Reliability-Centered Techniques (RCT), including:
- Automatic lubrication systems
- Vibration monitoring
- Thermography
- Ultrasound inspections
- Predictive maintenance technologies
- Drive TPM culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with 5S standards within assigned areas.
- Support the Tooling Department to achieve maintenance program objectives and improve tooling service performance.
