Description

Introduction to the Job

As a Design Engineer: Optical Sensor System - Integrated Optics, you will help develop advanced optical technologies used in ASML lithography systems. These systems enable the production of faster, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips that power everyday technologies around the world.

Based in Wilton, Connecticut, this role combines optical design, photonic integration, simulation, testing, and system validation. As a Design Engineer: Optical Sensor System - Integrated Optics, you will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop measurement and sensing solutions that support the future of semiconductor manufacturing.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Design Engineer: Optical Sensor System - Integrated Optics, you will contribute to the design, analysis, testing, and validation of advanced optical sensing technologies. You will work in laboratory environments and on full-scale systems while collaborating with engineers and researchers across multiple disciplines.

You will:

  • Design and evaluate integrated optical and photonic sensor solutions.
  • Perform optical simulations and analyze system performance data.
  • Develop and maintain test software using MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools.
  • Plan, execute, and document laboratory and system-level experiments.
  • Investigate technical issues and identify root causes of performance challenges.
  • Collaborate with engineers, researchers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommend design improvements.

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience, or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
  • Degree in Optical Engineering, Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with integrated optics, photonic integrated circuits, or optical sensor systems.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Lumerical, LabVIEW, KLayout, or related engineering tools.
  • Experience conducting optical testing, characterization, alignment, or laboratory-based experimentation.
  • Experience translating technical requirements into practical engineering solutions.

Skills

Working at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that. You won’t work in a silo. Instead, you’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There is always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.

To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following skills:

  • Apply optics, physics, and engineering principles to solve complex problems.
  • Analyze data and draw clear, evidence-based conclusions.
  • Collaborate effectively across teams with diverse technical backgrounds.
  • Communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Troubleshoot complex systems using a structured and analytical approach.
  • Demonstrate ownership, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Adapt quickly to evolving priorities and new technologies.
  • Build productive working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Drive continuous improvement and identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Manage multiple tasks while maintaining high quality standards.
Additional Responsibilities: There is potential for exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage and currents.
