This position is eligible for Mid Atlantic Retina's $1,000 Hiring Incentive! The hired candidate will receive $500 after successful completion of 90 days of employment and $500 after successful completion of 1 year of employment! Available to new hires only- not available to agency hires, internal transfers, or re-hires.

 

Job Description

The Medical Records and Disability Liaison supports Mid Atlantic Retina's physicians, patients, and staff by maintaining accurate, organized, and confidential patient medical records and documentation. This role assists with Disability and FMLA requests, registration forms, records requests, operative note processing, patient portal and fax management, and the timely completion and release of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and applicable regulations. The position serves as a liaison between patients, physicians, and disability firms, ensures accuracy of documentation, supports records management and departmental needs, and provides flexibility to assist with additional Medical Records functions as needed, including potential support for retina services.

Essential Functions

  1. Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA, organizational policies, applicable regulations, and the MAR Code of Ethics.
  2. Process Disability and FMLA requests, registration forms, records requests, and related documentation accurately and within required timeframes.
  3. Serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, disability firms, and authorized parties regarding medical records and disability documentation.
  4. Scan, upload, download, and electronically file medical records, operative notes, and other clinical documentation appropriately.
  5. Assist with patient portal, fax, records management, and release-of-information functions while maintaining patient confidentiality and security.
  6. Maintain accurate patient payment and billing information and support other departmental Medical Records needs, including potential retina services.
  7. If applicable, assist with identification, documentation, and reporting of reportable diseases.
  8. Maintain regular on-site attendance and work overtime or travel as needed.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical and Cognitive Demands

  1. Primarily sedentary role with occasional filing; ability to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, stand on a stool, and lift or move items up to 15 pounds.
  2. Ability to perform computer-based data entry, calculations, information processing, classification, recording, storage, and retrieval.
  3. Ability to read, comprehend, communicate, and explain information clearly, including complex concepts.
  4. Ability to operate computers and equipment with manual dexterity, precision, coordination, and stamina.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone/headset, email, and in group settings while accurately processing information and entering data.
  6. Requires adequate close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
  7. Ability to follow instructions, complete tasks, and follow through on assigned responsibilities.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Excellent customer service skills and attention to detail
  2. Experience with Practice Management systems, electronic health records systems, CPT, ICD10, Microsoft Office Suite
  3. 1-year electronic medical record experience preferred
