Job Description:

Should a current Toronto Harbourlight - The Homestead Alice M. Walter House employee that is a member of Union SEIU Local 1 within the first 5 days, their application will be given priority over external applicants.

Accountabilities:

                                                     

Service Responsibilities

  • Appropriately model healthy life skills and socialization to clients

  • Provide support as needed to clients in residence, as well as clients and former clients by telephone

  • Manage the safety and security of the building after office hours, including alarm system, evacuation, emergency management

  • Manage interpersonal crisis and conflict situations among clients

  • Manage behavior modification strategies with clients (positive and negative consequences, warnings and discharges) in consultation with team as required

  • Train, assign and supervise client chores and work therapy as required

  • Review and complete all required written communication, including log book, communication book, general log, Initial Inquiry Forms, EMHWARE, email reports as necessary

  • Maintain professional and appropriate verbal communication with co-workers, on-call counselors, management, clients and members of the public while on duty

  • Effectively and safely manage distribution of client medications

  • Admit and orient new clients to the residence

  • Answer doors, telephones and accept deliveries as necessary

  • Prepare and serve meals as necessary

  • Perform housekeeping duties as required

  • Participate in team interactions and decision making

  • Process client belongings on discharge

  • Ensure that clients are following guidelines

  • Stock housekeeping supplies as necessary

  • Appropriately manage hazardous items such as cleaning supplies and sharp

  • Supervise client urine screens, breathalyzers as required

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Be in agreement with and willing to support our Mission Statement and treatment philosophy
  • Maintain a drug and alcohol free lifestyle while on Salvation Army property and on duty Model appropriate dress that reflects a professional office environment
  • Participate in all staff meetings by attendance and participation Participate in regular direct supervision with immediate supervisor and implement improvement in performance as directed
  • Participate in yearly formal evaluation Represent The Salvation Army Homestead in a professional manner at all times
  • Be punctual and work all hours scheduled, advising immediate supervisor when this is not possible

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Preferred Degree or diploma in one of the human services professions

  • CPR+ Standard First Aid

  • CPI

  • ASSIST

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in one of the human services professions

  • Education, experience or equivalent in working with women with addictions and other marginalized women.

  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.

  • First Aid/CPR Certification

  • WHMIS training an asset

  • Mental health knowledge an asset

  • Valid Ontario Drivers’ License an asset

  • Clear CPIC/VSS

  • Computer skills in word processing, email, data entry, EMHWARE

  • Ability to cook for thirty people

  • Food Handlers Certificate

  • Must be supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army

  • Vulnerable Sector Check Required

Vulnerable Sector Check: an original copy of a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that is less than six (6) months old is required by your start date, and the results of the check must be acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion. The cost of the VSC is borne by the employee.


Compensation: Please note that this job falls under a collective agreement. The hourly rate for the Residential Care Worker - Relief position is set at $22.29 per hour, and wage increments are provided based on collective agreement language.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $20.57 to $20.57 with a maximum of $20.57.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
