Join the world’s largest fine and rare wine auction house, established in 1820.
The Consignment Specialist will work alongside Acker’s consignment team to source, develop, and manage relationships with collectors consigning fine and rare wine to auction. This role combines client development with hands-on wine valuation, supporting each consignment from first outreach through cataloging and sale settlement. It is ideal for a relationship-driven candidate with sales and account management experience and a genuine command of fine wine.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Wine Knowledge & Valuation
• Provide valuations of fine and rare wine based on current auction results and market pricing.
• Evaluate consignment collections by producer, region, vintage, format, and condition to support pricing and lot recommendations.
• Input catalog data and lot notes with a careful eye for accuracy and detail.
• Build deep market knowledge through direct exposure to the collections passing through Acker’s auctions.
Client Development
• Serve as a primary point of contact for new and existing consignors by phone and email.
• Learn to generate new consignment business through proactive outreach and consistent follow-up with prospective clients.
• Learn to develop key client accounts to expand consignment opportunities.
• Document all outreach and activity in the CRM, including leads, contacts, and consignment forms.
Auction & Sale Operations
• Maintain consignment inventory records by entering and updating data in Acker’s database.
• Assist with sale settlement and the management of sale data.
• Support live and online auction events as needed; events may be held in the evenings and/or weekends.
• Performs other related duties as requested.
Requirements
Wine Knowledge
• Working knowledge of fine wine regions, producers, and vintages, with a demonstrated passion for the fine and rare wine market.
• WSET or other formal wine education preferred.
Required Skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a polished, client-first approach.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to propose sound solutions and take action.
• Exceptionally detail-oriented while keeping the big picture in view.
• Able to work effectively and independently, following through on assignments with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills; CRM experience a plus.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, with availability for extended hours and weekends during auction periods.
Education and Experience
• 2 or more years of sales, account management, and/or business development experience.
• High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Physical Requirements
• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds for short durations, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Salary Range
$62,500 - $65,000 DOE
