The role involves building a scalable Ingress Gateway load balancing and proxy platform. The team provides interfaces for L4/L7 load balancing, TLS termination, end-to-end encryption, and traffic policies like blue/green deployments and access control. The role requires driving the design and implementation of the next-generation Ingress Gateway control and data planes, transforming the software stack to adopt cloud-native primitives, and contributing to open-source projects like Envoy and Istio. The team seeks experienced distributed systems software engineers passionate about new challenges and capable of owning significant parts of the vision.

Desired Skills and Experience:

- Experience and passion for service ownership, building reliable/self-healing services.

- Familiar with public cloud, particularly AWS and GCP.

- Good knowledge of network technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, HTTP proxies).

- Experience balancing live-site management, feature delivery, and technical debt retirement.

- Experience designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers.

What does success look like in your first 60-90 days?

- Ability to quickly learn the technical stack. This includes understanding OSS service mesh technologies (e.g. Envoy, Istio, NGINX), kubernetes, helm charts, spinnaker, load balancing, security groups. Developing a strong understanding of network technologies, such as TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, HTTP proxies is a must. Openness to working in an agile environment, delivering within milestones and dependency constraints, while focusing on quality coding, test coverage, high availability, and security.

At Salesforce, we believe in equitable compensation practices that reflect the dynamic nature of labor markets across various regions. The typical base salary range for this position is $148,500 - $223,900 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range for this role is $178,900 - $246,000 annually. The range represents base salary only, and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity or benefits, as applicable.
