Responsibilities
New York Tech’s Long Island campus seeks a Mechanic A- Electrician to work Monday – Friday, 7am – 3:30 pm.
The Mechanic A title is in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 282. The Mechanic A will report to the General Foreman and Management on the status of operation, repair and maintenance and preventive maintenance of campus equipment as assigned. Mechanic A will be responsible for scheduling repairs and maintenance around occupancy of campus facilities with emphasis on safety and code compliance. The Mechanic A is responsible for maintaining inventory and sourcing needs including tools and equipment. You will be expected to operate motor vehicles to perform duties efficiently and must have and maintain a valid and appropriate NYS Driver's License.
Mechanic A will have specialized skills in electrical systems (line voltage and low voltage systems), including but not limited to fire alarm and BMS systems. Mechanic A is expected to perform work at journeyman level in electrical assignments as well as skilled to semi-skilled level of work in combination of other trades (including but not limited to plumbing, HVAC, snow removal, etc.) Mechanic A can be assigned tasks in specializations other than these as directed and in line with the collective bargaining agreement.
Requirements:
- Ability to read blueprints and schematic drawings
- Extensive experience in troubleshooting equipment to identify faults
- Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor
- Ability to work unsupervised on assigned tasks
Qualifications
Minimum four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journeyman mechanic which provided training equivalent to that given in an apprentice program.
HS Diploma or equivalent and/or trade school certification.
Must be computer literate.
Must have a valid NYS driver license.
