Building Automation SpecialistJob Description
Purpose & Scope:
A hospital Building Automation Specialist (BAS) focused on HVAC controls and monitors air quality, temperature, humidity, and pressurization to support patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance. It maintains critical conditions in spaces such as operating rooms and isolation rooms, provides real-time monitoring and alarms, and helps ensure a reliable, efficient, 24/7 operation.
Education:
Technical training or an associate degree in one of the following:
- HVAC Technology
- Building Automation Systems
- Information Technology
- Electronics or Controls Engineering Technology
Experience:
2–3 years of hands-on experience with:
- HVAC systems (air handlers, VAVs, chillers, boilers)
- Building automation or HVAC control systems
- Troubleshooting sensors, actuators, control valves, and sequences
Certification/Licensure:
EPA Section 608 Certification – Required for anyone working with refrigerants
Preferred / Highly Valued:
- BAS Vendor Certifications (based on system in use)
- Siemens (Apogee / Desigo)
- Johnson Controls (Metasys)
- Schneider Electric (EcoStruxure)
- Honeywell (WEBs / EBI)
- Delta Controls
BACnet Certification (or demonstrated protocol knowledge)
NIOSH / OSHA safety training (healthcare environment compliance)
