Hazard Communication Specialist

As a Hazard Communication Specialist based in China, you will be a vital part of our dynamic Asia Pacific Regulatory Team. You will report directly to the Head of Regulatory Affairs for APAC but you will also be a critical member of the Global Hazard Communication team. As the APAC expert who understands SDS and labelling requirements across the region you will take a strategic view and advise on current and future compliance. As a hands on contributor, you will coordinate the implementation of policy and alignment of internal/external resources to disseminate or adapt SDS or labels from the global team. Being based in China, you will own the local, national and regional chemical control laws, hazard communication requirements, transportation classifications, and other compliance topics for the products produced and/or sold in China. You will also have the opportunity to support the wider regulatory team by guiding innovation activities, obtaining or maintaining product approvals, responding to regulatory challenges and providing effective customer support.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of policies, laws, regulations or guidance that may impact Arxada products and advise stakeholders on applicable requirements, options for compliance and risks.
- Analyse the Hazard Communication support requirements across APAC for the Arxada portfolio and develop options for current & future compliance
- Be the focal point for liaison with the global Hazard Communication, Labelling and Manufacturing Plant teams to ensure that APAC requirements are clearly understood and that the process for local adaptation using local internal or external experts is effective.
- This includes ensuring that the SAP system has the right data, layouts and rules/algorithms to meet national requirements for SDS and product labels.
- Maintain the portfolio of SDS & labels for Mainland China and Taiwan Region, China & other jurisdictions as specified from time to time. This includes authoring or adapting Safety Data Sheets (SDS) or labels in SAP (in close collaboration with the Global team) to support manufacturing sites and business units.
- For assigned legal entities in China, coordinate internally to ensure NRCC notifications and associated business license are compliant.
- Support the China regulatory team on notification and registration of substances or products to regional or country inventories. This may include the coordination and preparation of regulatory submissions to maintain product registrations or other applicable permits for company products, customers’ samples or raw materials
- Support the wider regulatory team to compile responses to hazard communication or product stewardship aspects of customer questionnaires or related inquiries from customers
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in chemistry or life sciences with typically 5+ years in chemical industry regulatory affairs
- Expert knowledge of the regional/national regulatory framework for chemicals with strong expertise in GHS and a focus on Hazard Communication in China. Experience in Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia or Vietnam is highly desirable.
- Hazardous transportation classification and experience with customs inspection on dangerous goods is also highly desirable.
- Effective and efficient data interpretation. The ability to review, assess, and assimilate health, safety, toxicological, and physical/chemical data on individual components or products in order to review global SDS or labels against local requirements and, if necessary, adapt or create SDS and label content.
- Strong skills in SAP.
- Native Chinese speaker who is business fluent in English. Thai or other SEA languages would be highly desirable.
