SUMMARY:
General building and grounds maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean and maintain Township park buildings, including emptying wastebaskets, washing dishes, dusting, mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, washing windows, and performing other custodial duties as needed when the Custodian is unavailable.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs for Township facilities, including the Township Office, Library, and park buildings and equipment. Duties may include painting, carpentry, general repairs, and other interior and exterior maintenance.
- Maintain grounds at Township facilities, parks, cemeteries, boulevards, and the Library, including mowing, fertilizing, weed control, irrigation, planting, trimming bushes and trees, and maintaining street lighting.
- Maintain and perform routine repairs on equipment, including lawn care equipment; perform tasks such as painting, servicing, oil changes, and other preventative maintenance.
- Monitor and maintain an adequate supply of materials, tools, and other items necessary for the upkeep and maintenance of Township facilities and grounds.
- Open and close graves at the cemetery.
- Snowplow parking areas of the Township Offices, Library and Cemetery.
- Clean and salt sidewalks of the Township Office and Library.
- Snowplow sidewalks along streets as determined by the Township Board.
- Assist Facilities Supervisor with budgetary needs of the maintenance equipment
- Obtain information and prices of items to be purchase.
- Supervise other part-time maintenance staff in the absence of Facilities Supervisor or when assigned.
- Set up for Township related meetings.

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Previous work experience in a similar position would be helpful
- This position requires a willingness to acquire additional training
- A license for the use of pesticides and herbicides would be helpful.
- This position requires attention to detail, self-motivation, logic, intuition, analysis, judgment, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical skills.
- Knowledge of welding, underground irrigation/sprinkler systems, and street lighting is preferred.
- Ability to walk between various work locations and facilities as needed.
- Ability to safely operate lawn mowers, lawn care equipment, and other related equipment.
- Ability to perform digging and other manual labor tasks as required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and diagrams.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and others.
- Ability to follow established safety procedures and practices to maintain a safe work environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: | High school diploma or GED is desired, or work towards high school diploma or GED required. |
Experience: | Must be 18 years of age or older to operate machinery |

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Most all your work will be done outside.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels from operating equipment such as lawn mowers and string trimmers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift and care up to 50lbs without assistance.
- Ability to work outside in the heat.
