Job Title:
Engineer II, Mechanical EngineeringJob Description:
The Role
Entegris is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our Engineering team at our San Luis Obispo, California location.
The Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of pressure vessels used in high-purity semiconductor purification systems. This role partners closely with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to develop new products, perform stress analysis, create detailed engineering documentation, support production troubleshooting, and ensure designs meet safety, performance, and industry compliance requirements. The position combines hands-on manufacturing engagement with mechanical design expertise to deliver reliable, high-quality products.
What You’ll Do
Lead the mechanical design of Point of Use (POU) pressure vessels used for containing high-purity purification media.
Partner closely with the Research & Development team to determine optimal media types, form factors, and geometric requirements for new purifier products.
Evaluate and select appropriate filtration media to meet pressure drop, flow rate, and contamination control requirements.
Design robust joints for pressure vessels, with a heavy emphasis on both welding specifications and bolted joint assemblies.
Spend dedicated time on the manufacturing floor learning orbital and lathe welding.
Conduct, analyze, and document pressure vessel stress calculations to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with internal and external standards (e.g., ASME BPVC).
Utilize SolidWorks to create 3D models, detailed 2D manufacturing drawings, and complete Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Act as an engineering liaison to the manufacturing floor, assisting in the troubleshooting of production issues to ensure on-time delivery.
Participate in design reviews, process improvements, and change control processes to improve manufacturability and product performance.
Create a healthy and safe work environment for all employees.
Any other duties as assigned.
What We Seek
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
2 to 4 years of professional engineering experience with a direct focus on pressure equipment or pressure vessel design.
Demonstrated experience in 3D modeling and 2D drafting using SolidWorks or other CAD programs. (Experience with PDM/PLM systems is a plus).
Deep understanding of mechanical assembly techniques, specifically structural welding design, weld callouts, and bolted joint engineering.
Proven ability to perform manual and software-assisted stress calculations for pressurized equipment. Familiarity with ASME Section VIII or similar pressure vessel codes is highly preferred.
Previous experience with filtration media, fluid dynamics, or high-purity gas/liquid systems is a strong advantage.
Hands-on mindset with a track record of successfully troubleshooting mechanical manufacturing and production issues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with R&D, Quality, and Manufacturing teams.
