Description
Senior Project Manager – Industrial Engineering & Capital Projects
Location: SW Portland, OR (Hybrid / Travel required)
Position Type: Full-Time / Direct Hire
The Opportunity
Are you an experienced project manager or operations leader who thrives on full ownership, high autonomy, and direct client impact? We are seeking a Senior Industrial Project Manager to lead complex, large-scale industrial engineering and capital projects from concept to completion.
This is not a traditional "process-heavy" PM role—we value real-world execution, deep technical intuition, and hands-on operational grit over rigid methodologies. You will serve as the primary advisor and face of the business to clients, taking full command of project lifecycles, budgets, and engineering teams.
Note: Candidate reviews for this position will take place in mid-August.
What You’ll Do
· Drive End-to-End Execution: Lead industrial capital projects from early concept design through installation, commissioning, and final handoff.
· Be the Go-To Leader: Serve as the central point of contact for plant leadership, executives, and on-site engineering teams, delivering clear, authoritative answers and proactive solutions.
· Solve Complex Process Problems: Evaluate plant layouts, machinery, and production lines to identify bottlenecks, structural risks, and efficiency improvements.
· Manage Project Finances: Build, track, and own comprehensive project budgets, cost estimates, and capital expenditure forecasts.
· Manage On-Site & Outage Logistics: Oversee construction phases, equipment installation, and production outages, ensuring zero downtime surprises.
· Mentor & Elevate Teams: Help grow and guide junior PMs, engineers, and designers by sharing best practices and technical expertise.
What We Are Looking For
· 10+ Years of Field-Tested Experience: Background in industrial manufacturing, heavy engineering, design-build, or industrial construction. Experience in wood products or heavy industrial processing is a strong plus.
· Proven Leadership Background: Prior experience as a Plant Manager, Operations Manager, Capital Projects Manager, or Construction Manager.
· Practical & Hands-On Focus: Real-world knowledge of how machines operate, how fabrication works, and how maintenance teams maintain equipment in the field.
· Financial Ownership: Direct experience building capital estimates and keeping projects on budget.
· Adaptable Communication: Ability to build instant trust with everyone from maintenance techs on the mill floor to C-suite financial executives.
· Willingness to Travel: Open to periodic client site visits, plant walkthroughs, and kickoff meetings.
Compensation & Benefits
· Competitive Pay Structure: Base salary plus commission tied to project success and business impact.
· Retirement Plan: Automatic 3% company 401(k) match.
· True Autonomy: You won't be micromanaged—you’ll have the freedom to run your projects, make critical calls, and drive results your way.
· Direct Business Impact: Your work will directly shape facility operations and build long-term client trust.
· Growth Potential: Opportunity to build and lead a dedicated team of junior project managers as the project pipeline expands.
