DEFINITION
Under the immediate supervision of the Chief Inspector, Weights and Measures or a higher-level 
officer, this position is responsible for conducting approved sampling procedures in all phases of 
weights and measures enforcement.
Under a program of planned training by the Director of Weights and Measures, the incumbent 
undergoes in-service training in the technical aspects of the complete examination of weighing 
and measuring devices, weighing, and measuring practices and sampling procedures. Work is 
reviewed and usually checked upon completion.DUTIES (NOT ALL INCLUSIVE)
Performs examination of weighing and measuring devices.
Accompanies senior personnel on field investigation tours and performs examination of weighing and measuring devices.
Performs sample testing procedures and makes accurate reports of the results.
Conducts surveys and tests to determine the net contents of pre-packaged commodities.
Makes recommendations based on the results of inspections, tests, and investigations as to the acceptability of a device or practice under the terms of the existing laws and regulations.
Undergoes regular classroom and in-service training on the laws, regulations, procedures and policies regarding weights and measures administration and enforcement.
Conducts all types of special surveys and investigations.
Performs all types of basic inspections and investigations regarding weights and measures enforcement.
Provides assistance in compiling and analyzing data.
Prepares monthly and other reports of work performed.
Performs other related work as required.High School diploma or its equivalent from an accredited institution.FACTOR 1- KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of mathematics, algebra, leverage, and electronics.
Skill in use of state standards for weight volume linear measures.
Ability to pay attention to detail.
Ability to work successfully with people of various economic levels.
Ability to be courteous to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all segments of 
industry and the public.
Ability to communicate in English orally and in writing.

FACTOR 2- SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
Work is directly supervised by the Chief Inspector, Weights and Measures or a higher-level 
Inspector. Work is performed in accordance with established standards. Incumbent is provided 
with classroom and in service training on the laws, regulations, procedures and policies regarding 
weights and measures administration and enforcement.

FACTOR 3- GUIDELINES 
Guidelines include local weights and measures statues, rules and regulations. The National 
Training Program sponsored by the National Conference on Weights and Measures is also used to 
teach and interpret techniques for testing commercial weighing and measuring devices to help 
enhance general weights and measures enforcement.

FACTOR 4- COMPLEXITY
This is entry level weights and measures enforcement work. It requires basic knowledge of 
mathematics, algebra leverage and electronics which will enhance the incumbent in grasping the 
working knowledge required to function in this position.

FACTOR 5- SCOPE AND EFFECT
The purpose of work is to verify that the commercial section of the community is adhering to 
guidelines set by the Government in relation to dispersing of proper weights and measures 
requirements.

FACTOR 6- PERSONAL CONTACTS
Contacts are with the immediate supervisor, co-workers, and businesses. Contacts are made in person.

FACTOR 7- PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
Contacts are made to perform testing of commercial weighing and measuring devices, to perform 
general weights and measures enforcement, and with the supervisor to determine the progress of 
the work and expectations.

FACTOR 8- PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work involves fieldwork and requires some physical effort including lifting-up to fifty (50) 
pounds and driving from the office to various commercial and business districts. 

FACTOR 9- WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in an office setting as well as on the field.
