Driver

Job Description:

The Driver will provide daily transportation to clients (“riders”) who report intellectual and/or physical disabilities and need transportation to daily programming. The Driver will also provide transportation to senior citizen riders who require transportation to doctor appointments, grocery store visits, pharmacies, and other “quality of life” destinations. All clients are physically able to ride the bus with some riders needing minor assistance in and out of the vehicle.

Scope of Duties:

1. The driver will transport riders from their residence to various programs and quality of life locations. The driver will return to pick them back up and transport them back to their place of residence.

2. The driver must be reliable and pay special attention to the individual needs of their riders.

3. The driver must be detail oriented regarding vehicle maintenance and operation (applying brakes, starting and stopping engine, service lights, tire pressure, mileage, time and location documentation, etc.).

4. The driver will adhere to all company policies and procedures as well as any directives assigned by the Program Coordinator.

5. The driver is to drive through traffic carefully and safely by obeying all traffic laws.

6. The driver will report any accidents, traffic/route disruptions, or concerns to the Program Coordinator immediately.

7. The driver will assist disabled riders in and out of the vehicle carefully.

8. The driver will attend and participate in staff meetings and follow directives accurately.

9. The driver will always conduct them self to promote dignity and respect for all staff, residents, volunteers, and general public.

10. The driver will perform other duties as assigned.

11. The driver will punch in and out on the time clock before and after each shift.

Credentials/Abilities:

The employee in this position is required to possess of a valid driver’s license. Experience in the field of social services is preferred. Criminal background, child abuse clearance and driving record are required. The employee must possess a strong ability to make immediate decisions when faced with crisis or unusual situations. The employee must have effective written and verbal communication skills.
