Our Crime & Regulatory team is ranked by Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners and works on some of the most complex and high profile regulatory matters in the UK. Now, we’re looking for an accomplished lawyer to help shape its next chapter.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a Partner (or Partner‑designate) to join our Crime & Regulatory team in Manchester.
You’ll play a key role in the strategic leadership, growth and day‑to‑day delivery of a practice advising insured and non‑insured clients across a wide range of regulatory and business crime matters. Markel Law LLP is an independent, SRA‑regulated law firm and part of Markel Corporation (NYSE: MKL) – a Fortune 500 company with operations in over 20 countries.
We combine the agility of a specialist firm with the stability, scale and ambition of a global organisation.

Playing a proactive role in business development and practice growth
Contributing to firm‑wide strategy, governance and financial performance
Supporting marketing, PR and thought leadership activity across the practice
What We’re Looking For:
You’ll be a senior lawyer with strong technical credibility and commercial instinct, ideally already operating at Partner level or ready to take that next step.
You’ll bring:
Significant expertise across crime and regulatory law, with depth in at least two core areas
Experience working with legal expenses insurance and general insurance referrals
A proven track record of client management, practice development and business growth
Strong leadership and people‑management capability
Commercial awareness and confidence managing budgets, billing and profitability
Excellent communication skills and a commitment to first‑class client care
