*Summary:

A Lineman is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical power lines, transformers, and related equipment, ensuring safe and reliable electricity distribution by climbing poles, operating bucket trucks, and responding to service outages in a timely manner.

*Key Responsibilities:

Installation and Maintenance:

Install, replace, and maintain electrical power lines, poles, transformers, and other related equipment.

Climb utility poles and towers using climbing gear to access lines and equipment.

Operate bucket trucks to reach elevated work areas and install or repair lines.

Dig trenches and install underground electrical cables.

Perform routine inspections of electrical systems to identify potential hazards and repair issues.

Emergency Response:

Respond to service outages and emergencies, including downed power lines, to restore electricity quickly and safely.

Troubleshoot electrical faults and identify the cause of outages.

Perform necessary repairs to damaged lines and equipment in emergency situations.

Safety Compliance:

Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures regarding working with high voltage electricity.

Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety harnesses, gloves, and insulated tools.

Properly de-energize lines and equipment before working on them

Maintain awareness of surrounding hazards and work areas

Technical Skills:

Read and interpret electrical blueprints and schematics

Understand electrical theory and principles related to power distribution systems

Operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment such as power saws, drills, and line-handling tools

Perform splicing and terminating electrical cables

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Completion of a recognized electrical lineman apprenticeship program or equivalent experience

Ability to climb poles and work at elevated heights

Strong physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects

Excellent hand-eye coordination and problem-solving skills

Ability to work in all weather conditions and during extended hours when necessary
