Description
Position Summary
The Respite Worker provides short-term supervision and support to children with developmental disabilities in accordance with their Individual Support Plan (ISP) and DDD authorization. Services may be provided in-home, in the community, or in an agency-based group setting. Duties vary based on the assigned respite service and the child’s needs. Respite Workers are not required to provide all service types.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (as assigned)
Provide safe, age-appropriate supervision and support
Follow the child’s ISP, routines, and behavior guidelines
Engage children in social and recreational activities
Assist with basic care needs as authorized
Ensure health, safety, and well-being at all times
Communicate concerns, incidents, or changes in behavior
Complete required documentation and service notes
Comply with DDD regulations, agency policies, and confidentiality standards
Service Settings May Include
Self-Hired Respite (family-selected workers)
Agency-Hired Respite (in-home or community)
Agency Weekend Recreation (group-based)
Agency After School Care (on-site, group-based)
Qualifications
Must be 18 years or older
High school diploma or GED preferred
Ability to pass background checks and required clearances
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
Experience working with children preferred
Additional Requirements
Ability to supervise children in active settings
Flexibility with schedules, including evenings and weekends
For agency-hired positions: compliance with EVV requirements
