ASSISTANT MAINTENANCE MANAGER

We are seeking an experienced and technical Assistant Maintenance Manager to join our client’s in the

manufacturing field’s team in Bellville, Cape Town.

In this role, the successful candidate will work in cooperation with the Maintenance Manager to cover all the

maintenance tasks on-site. This candidate will also attend to the responsibilities of the Maintenance Manager in

his absence.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Routine Scheduled Maintenance

• Ensure thorough and timely completion of maintenance tasks as stated in company scheduled

maintenance documents 7018 up till 7023 and 7005 Office Maintenance 3x monthly.

• Must be familiar and understand:

a) The operation of each machine.

b) How to disassemble and assemble the machines.

c) How to do adjustments to obtain optimal efficiency.

d) Machine specifications.

• Perform a pre-inspection to identify any faults before scheduled maintenance can commence.

• Perform a after inspection when maintenance is completed.

• Be present when starting machines after scheduled or unscheduled maintenance.

• Walk the plant twice a day to inspect for any defects by following document 7013 Maintenance Daily

Inspections. Complete the WhatsApp reports thereafter.

• Address every task on a document. In the case of no attention still write “not done, the reason why and

when it will be addressed”.

• All scheduled maintenance tasks must be signed off when completed.

• Completed documents must be signed off and handed over to the Maintenance Manager.

• Delivery notes of purchases must be brought to the attention of the maintenance manager.

• Special Operating Procedures must be completed where applicable and handed over to the

maintenance manager when the job is done.

 

Repairs and Modifications

• Be on standby for break down recovery.

• Always be able to assist with breakdown repairs.

• Handle all emergency situations as urgent.

• All repairs to breakdowns must be done quickly and effectively.

• A temporary repair is only acceptable in abnormal circumstances and needs to be fixed permanently

ASAP.

• All defects to the Company property must be reported immediately to Admin “Shirley” who act as the

administrator of the program.

• Complete document 7015 Plant Deviation Report and report defect to the Maintenance Manager for

repair.

Consumable Materials and Spare Parts

• If spare parts are used, it must be brought under the maintenance manager’s attention immediately

because there should always be sufficient serviceable critical spare parts so that there are no waiting

times if breakages take place.

• Spare parts must be ordered and stored neatly.

• Spare parts must be checked carefully for damages when offloaded by the supplier before the receipt

documentation is signed.

• There must always be sufficient stock. Stock must always be between the minimum and maximum stock

levels.

• Once you notice levels are low, it must be brought to the attention of the maintenance manager.

 

 

• Consumables should always be controlled and used wisely to control waste.

• Consumables must be stored neatly and easily be identifiable.

• Tools must be stored neatly and identifiable as requested by the maintenance manager.

• Tools that gets lost, or breaks must immediately be logged in and a lost / broken tool report must be

completed.

• Tool’s checklist document 7009, system maintained to limit losses.

• Maintenance staff must be trained to use tools correctly.

• Remove unsafe tools to prevent from using and report to Maintenance Manager.

Occupational Safety

• These buildings must always comply to good housekeeping (For everything a place and everything on its

place).

• Daily maintain optimal cleanliness.

• Special attention should be paid to pest control.

• It must be ensured that maintenance staff always wear the necessary protective clothing.

• If staff do dangerous high work, they need to wear and secure safety harnesses.

• Technical staff code of conduct and safety rules 9006 must strictly adhered to.

• This building must always be maintained in a tidy condition with good housekeeping.

• Special attention should be paid to pest control.

• Be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.

• Make sure people know what to do in the event of fire.

• Apply control with the issue of it and sign up for replacement.

Food Safety

• Be familiar with the company food safety system as per Document 9004 Food Safety Policy.

• Ensure that all food safety rules are applied of maintenance staff when maintenance takes place.

• Ensure that maintenance staff apply hygiene standards according to document 8001 Food Safety at the

company.

• Ensure that maintenance staff wear clean protected clothes.

• Be familiar with document WCM 8002 Pest Control at the company, 9041 Pest control Policy and 1022

Pest control procedure.

• Monitor and report insects and rodents’ inspections.

• Contamination: Be careful and monitor the situation so that there will not be strange objects in

products. Especially after maintenance.

Requirements:

• 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing/processing environment

• Qualified as an electrician (Red Seal)

• Code B license

• Key attributes: Strong technical insight and skills, mechanical skills, planning skills, managerial skills,

problem solving skills

• Willingness to work from 06:00 – 16:00 as well as on weekend duty and standby
