Description
PROJECT ENGINEER – HEAVY CIVIL CONSTRUCTION
A well-established heavy civil contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to support the planning, coordination, and execution of major highway and civil infrastructure projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with heavy civil or highway construction experience who wants to take on meaningful responsibility in the field while working alongside experienced project management and field leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy civil construction activities
- Support project schedules, budgets, and overall project execution
- Design, review, and implement temporary works, construction means, and methods with a strong focus on safety
- Inspect installed work, equipment, and materials and coordinate corrective actions when needed
- Provide technical support and direction to foremen, crews, and subcontractors
- Monitor project progress and maintain accurate daily reports, quantities, and project documentation
- Perform quality control inspections to ensure work complies with plans, specifications, and contract requirements
- Verify materials and workmanship meet project requirements and approved submittals
- Promote and enforce job-site safety policies, OSHA requirements, and proper PPE usage
- Assist with project cost tracking, schedule updates, and stakeholder coordination
- Maintain communication between field operations, project management, owners, inspectors, and subcontractors
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 1+ year of experience as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar position
- Heavy civil, highway, roadway, bridge, or infrastructure construction experience preferred
- Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment, and materials
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and job-site safety practices
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work extended hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays as project schedules require
Project & Travel
- Initial project is located in West Virginia
- Future projects will be located throughout the United States
- Travel and relocation may be required based on project needs
- Work is primarily performed on active heavy civil construction sites, including highways, roadways, bridges, and other infrastructure projects
Working Environment
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting
- Regular exposure to heavy equipment, moving machinery, traffic, and other construction hazards
- Strict adherence to job-site safety protocols is required
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory
