Security Technician
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: Starting at $30.00+/hour DOE
Role Overview
The Lead Installation Technician is responsible for installing, programming, and servicing access control, CCTV, intercom, and intrusion alarm systems, including fire alarm control panel tie-ins. As the lead, coordinates daily work, trains technicians, serves as the point of contact for field work, and ensures quality, safety, and customer service on all projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads on-site execution of assigned installation projects from site preparation through closeout, keeping work to specifications, schedule, and safety standards, and performs system and acceptance testing and customer walkthroughs at closeout.
- Installs, programs, tests, commissions, and troubleshoots access control, CCTV, intercom, and intrusion systems on small and mid-size projects; and designs small intrusion alarm systems.
- Reads and works from CAD drawings, blueprints, floor plans, riser diagrams, and manufacturer documentation; installs, routes, terminates, and labels low-voltage cabling to standards.
- Performs service calls, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance, including after-hours and on-call response.
- Complete work orders and service tickets with appropriate documentation, including zone legends, as-built drawings, test and inspection reports, material usage and system configurations.
- Coordinates daily work with Project Managers, electricians, general contractors, and other trades on new construction and retrofit projects.
- Coordinates daily crew assignments, sequences job site activities and monitor progress to keep work on
- Reviews crew workmanship, labeling, and documentation before close-out, corrects issues in the field or escalates to the Project Manager.
- Leads daily tailgate safety talks on active jobs, models safe work practices, and stops unsafe work until it can be done safely; ensures work complies with applicable codes, safety regulations, and customer site rules, including fall protection, ladder, lift, and PPE requirements.
- Reports job progress, material needs, crew hours, and crew availability to the Project Manager, who approves timecards, overtime, and time off.
- Onboard, train and mentor installation technicians on installation methods, programming, documentation, safety protocols, and workmanship standards, following training plans and certification paths.
- Provides input to the Project Manager on technician skills, training needs, and conduct or performance concerns, and may participate in technical interviews for field candidates.
- Serves as point of contact for customers on day-to-day scheduling and site coordination, communicating job status, access needs, and issues clearly.
- Recommend opportunities to improve installation standards, field procedures, and documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency; technical or vocational training in electronics or low-voltage systems preferred.
- Must have a minimum of 5-8 years of hands-on experience installing or servicing security systems, including wiring and programming intrusion control panels.
- Demonstrated leadership and/or mentoring experience.
- Ability to maintain professional customer relationships and promote the Company culture.
- Must hold OSHA 10 certification, or obtain it within 90 days of hire;
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Verkada, VideoEdge, Victor, and Axis certifications or similar certifications preferred.
- Must have basic computer skills, experience with Sedona or a comparable service management system preferred.
- Must have strong problem-solving skills
Work Requirements:
- Valid Hawaii driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, with additional hours as needed.
- Must participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours, weekend, and holiday service.
- Ability to meet the physical demands, such as climb ladders, operate aerial lifts, work at heights.
- Ability to work in attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to work on active construction sites, occupied buildings, and secured government facilities, following site access rules at all times.
- Travel to neighboring islands may be required.
