Description
While position responsibilities vary, every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging and a psychologically healthy work environment by communicating across differences; being cooperative, collaborative, open, and welcoming; showing respect, compassion, and empathy; engaging and supporting others regardless of background or perspective; speaking up when others are being excluded or treated inappropriately; and supporting work/life integration of oneself and others.
In collaboration with the Director, the Program Manager oversees and coordinates the four main areas of the Milstein Program: yearly programming, operations, communications strategy, and financial stewardship.
The Program Manager develops and executes enrichment programming during the academic calendar year, which includes the public-facing speaker series (M Studio), student opportunities (short courses, workshops, student and alumni panels, etc.), and the end of year Milstein Expo, all to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of the Program. The Manager recommends and selects M Studio speakers in collaboration with the Program Director to highlight and enhance the interdisciplinary nature of the program and to benefit the broader campus community.
The Program Manager oversees the successful internal operation of the Milstein Program, prioritizing a successful student experience from the admissions process through graduation. The Manager recruits and hires for faculty opportunities in collaboration with College Human Resources, including but not limited to visiting lecturer appointments, Faculty Fellowships in collaboration across departments in Arts & Sciences, postdoctoral associates, and/or graduate student teaching assistants or research assistants. The Manager will work with the Director and faculty members across Arts & Sciences to establish and maintain an interdisciplinary curriculum for students in the program and works with the Program Coordinator to publicize opportunities to students.
This individual also develops and maintains the Milstein Program’s budget each year and is responsible for financial reporting to the College and donor reporting in collaboration with AA&D representatives, A&S and Cornell Tech staff, and faculty members. The incumbent administers various funding opportunities for students and faculty members including summer grants and fellowships, travel grants, and other awards. They are the direct supervisor of the Program Coordinator position and hire Milstein Program student workers. In consultation with colleagues in the A&S Communications office, the Program Manager plans and oversees big-picture internal and external communication strategy.
This position requires experience in and a passion for working with multiple units across the university including admissions, enrollment, career advising, and alumni affairs and development. The Program Manager should have a strong interest in student support to a diverse and engaged group of high-achieving students. The Program Manager will lead by example in establishing and maintaining a community that supports and enhances the educational mission of the University and the Milstein Program, advising students on academic requirements of the program, recommending connections with specific other departments and units in the College and beyond, and communicating the efforts of the program to donors and university administrators.
