Description
Description
We are seeking a DevSecOps Engineer to join our Navy Programs team in Middletown, RI. In this role, you will build, secure, and maintain the CI/CD pipelines and deployment infrastructure behind mission-critical software systems supporting U.S. Navy submarines, aircraft carriers, and shore-based platforms. You will play a key role in supporting operational readiness by ensuring software moves from development to deployment quickly, securely, and reliably.
The ideal candidate will bring solid experience in DevOps or infrastructure engineering on Linux, including container technologies (Docker/Podman), CI/CD tooling, and strong Bash and Python scripting. This position is well suited for an experienced engineer who enjoys automating hard problems and working closely with developers, testers, and product leads in an agile team. The work involves building and hardening the pipelines and deployment strategies for applications running on a Kubernetes-based platform. It directly supports U.S. Navy submarine combat systems.
This is a full-time position based in Middletown, RI. The position requires U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret Clearance. The annual base salary is $125,000 – $134,000, with final compensation based on experience and skills.
In addition to a competitive base salary, this position is eligible for a sign-on bonus and a comprehensive benefits package including healthcare benefits (medical, dental, and vision), Flexible Spending Accounts, Life Insurance, 401(k) plan with matching company contributions, paid time off, holidays, and tuition and training reimbursement.
Requirements
You’ll be responsible for:
- Designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in GitLab CI and Bamboo, and administering Bitbucket and GitLab repositories, branching strategies, and merge request workflows to support U.S. Navy submarine combat systems.
- Building and maintaining container images, registries, and deployment strategies using Docker and Podman for a Kubernetes-based runtime environment.
- Developing Bash and Python automation and implementing infrastructure as code (IaC) practices for repeatable, version-controlled environments across development and lab systems.
- Enforcing security best practices across the pipeline, including image scanning, secrets management, and access controls.
- Monitoring system and pipeline health, performance, and availability; responding to incidents and conducting root cause analysis.
- Collaborating with software engineers, test engineers, and product leads to improve build, test, and deployment processes within an agile/scrum cadence, and producing documentation and runbooks that follow program configuration management practices.
Required Skills:
- U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance at time of hire.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, plus 4–6 years of professional experience in DevOps, SRE, or infrastructure engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Bash and Python scripting.
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining container images with Docker and Podman.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in Atlassian Bamboo and GitLab CI.
- Proficiency with Git, Bitbucket, and GitLab, including branching models, pull/merge requests, webhooks, and history management.
- Solid Linux system administration experience, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals (DNS, load balancing, firewalls, TLS).
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to communicate effectively across development, test, and customer teams.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Splunk.
- Familiarity with GitOps workflows and secrets management tools (Vault, sealed secrets).
- Experience operating in regulated, security-sensitive, or air-gapped environments.
- Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Experience on DoD or Navy programs.
