Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Alternate schedules may be available.
Work Location: Hybrid. This position reports to 111 SW Columbia St, Portland, OR 97201. Remote work must be performed within Oregon or Washington. For more information, click here.

Position Summary:
The Revenue Division is seeking a Revenue and Tax Specialist II (RTS II) to join its Personal Income Tax Customer Service team. In this role, you will help taxpayers and tax professionals understand their accounts and navigate tax processes. You will answer questions by phone, review and process documents and payments, create and maintain accounts, and resolve routine account issues. You will identify matters that need further review and refer them to senior specialists.
The work is fast paced and varies throughout the tax cycle. The ideal candidate is comfortable handling a high volume of inquiries, explaining information clearly, and working carefully with sensitive financial information.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide quality customer service to taxpayers, businesses, and tax professionals.
- Answer phone calls and respond to taxpayer inquiries.
- Refer and/or process documents received via the mailroom.
- Process a high-volume of payments.
- Create new accounts, review existing accounts; identify and clean up issues with new and existing accounts.
- Identify issues and refer issues needing escalation to the RTS III's, RTS IV's, and RTS V's.
- Provide additional support and duties as needed; duties vary with business and tax cycles.
Applicants must demonstrate how their education, training, and experience meet each of the minimum qualifications listed below:
Experience providing excellent customer service in a busy setting by phone, email, or in person.
Experience explaining complex subjects such as tax code, policies, laws, or financial calculations to the general public/customers.
Experience processing a high volume of documents with speed and accuracy.
Experience using office suite software including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and scheduling/email applications.
- The ability to pass an educational and criminal background investigation.
- The ability to undergo fingerprinting as mandated by the IRS regulations upon being hired.

- Selection Process - Late October: The hiring bureau will review qualified applications, conduct interviews, and check references.
- Conditional Job Offer: Final candidates may undergo a background or driving record check, depending on the position.
