About The Role

Price Benowitz LLP is seeking an accomplished Senior Criminal Defense Attorney to join our growing Virginia criminal defense practice in the Greater Richmond area.

This position is designed for an experienced criminal defense attorney who is comfortable taking the lead on complex felony matters and high-stakes criminal cases. The attorney will handle matters throughout the Richmond region, with opportunities to serve clients in Richmond and surrounding jurisdictions, including areas south of the city.

We are particularly interested in attorneys with substantial courtroom experience who are confident independently managing sophisticated cases from initial appearance through trial.

What You'll Do

• Serve as lead counsel on complex criminal matters, with a particular emphasis on serious felony cases.
• Represent clients throughout the Greater Richmond area and surrounding Virginia jurisdictions.
• Independently manage cases from initial appearance through resolution or trial.
• Develop sophisticated defense strategies involving factual, evidentiary, constitutional, and procedural issues.
• Handle bond hearings, preliminary hearings, motions practice, plea negotiations, trials, sentencing proceedings, and other critical stages of criminal litigation.
• Provide strategic guidance on particularly challenging or high-stakes matters.
• Build strong, trust-based relationships with clients facing serious criminal charges and significant consequences.
• Collaborate with other criminal defense attorneys, paralegals, and support staff across the firm's Virginia practice.
• Focus on practicing law without the expectation of generating your own leads or developing a personal book of business.

What You Bring

• Active Virginia Bar license in good standing.
• Significant substantive criminal defense experience, ideally including substantial felony work.
• Strong first-chair courtroom and trial experience.
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex and high-stakes criminal matters.
• Excellent judgment, case strategy, negotiation, and client counseling skills.
• Ability to effectively represent clients across multiple jurisdictions within the Greater Richmond region, ideally with a focus on areas south of the city.
• A strong work ethic, professionalism, and genuine commitment to criminal defense and client advocacy.
• Public defender, prosecutor, or established private criminal defense experience may all provide relevant backgrounds for this position.
