System Administrator (Linux/Windows — Engineering Labs)

MRI Technologies has an exciting opportunity for a System Administrator on the JETS II contract at NASA Johnson Space Center. You will support the Aeroscience and Flight Mechanics Division, working across several engineering labs that perform analysis for all crewed spaceflight, including analysis for NASA's commercial partners. You will keep the Windows and Linux systems and lab networks behind that analysis secure, healthy, and running.

This is an early-career, hands-on system administration role supporting engineering lab environments - a great fit for someone with at least a year of IT experience who is ready to grow into Linux, Windows, and network administration in a mission-critical setting.

A Day in the Life

You will support both Windows and Linux (Red Hat–based) systems across multiple labs, and you will manage and help design the wired and wireless networks specific to each lab. Day to day, you will investigate system problems, proactively monitor system health, and complete security updates and upgrades on all lab systems. You will work alongside other System Administrators in the Aeroscience and Flight Mechanics Division, following established best practices and developing new ones of your own, and you will help lab users resolve IT issues so their engineering work keeps moving. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

What We Are Looking For

Required - Core Experience (Must Have)

• Hands-on experience administering Linux systems. We use a Red Hat–based OS, but experience with another Linux distribution is fine.
• Experience supporting Windows 10 and later.
• Demonstrated experience assisting others with IT-related issues.

Required - General

• Typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related area, or equivalent experience in the field
• At least 1 year of experience in any IT-related field
• Demonstrated problem-solving, task planning, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Preferences

• Experience with Red Hat–based systems (RHEL, Rocky, Alma, CentOS)
• IT service desk support experience
• Experience configuring wired and wireless networks
• Configuration management software such as Ansible, Puppet, or BigFix
• Monitoring and alerting tools
• Log consolidation and monitoring
• Git/GitLab usage
• Familiarity with the Johnson Space Center campus network
• Knowledge of NASA or federal security mechanisms (security plans, POA&Ms, ATOs, risk assessments)
