Description

Emory Healthcare is seeking an experienced Epic Beaker Anatomic Pathology (AP) Analyst to support the build, optimization, and troubleshooting of the Beaker AP application across our laboratory and Digital Pathology environments. This role serves as a critical liaison between Pathology operations, IT, and multidisciplinary procedural teams, ensuring dictation, specimen tracking, instrument interfaces, and reporting workflows function reliably to support patient care.

The ideal candidate combines strong Epic Beaker AP technical expertise with hands-on knowledge of Anatomic Pathology laboratory operations, including the equipment and interfaces that keep specimens moving accurately from collection through final sign-out.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary Epic Beaker AP analyst for build, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of AP workflows, including specimen accessioning, gross description, microscopic description, final diagnosis, and report sign-out.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot AP laboratory equipment, including cassette engravers, slide etchers, stainers, and other instrumentation integrated with Beaker AP.
  • Support specimen label build and printing configuration to ensure accurate specimen identification throughout the workflow.
  • Partner with LIS Technical Leaders and Epic Integration team to maintain and troubleshoot instrument and system interfaces supporting Pathology.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary procedural teams — including Surgery, Endoscopy, and Radiology — to support and optimize specimen collection and routing workflows that feed into Pathology.
  • Design, build, and maintain Specimen Navigator/VCN workflows to support accurate specimen tracking and chain of custody.
  • Participate in multi-team Epic projects, upgrades, and go-lives, coordinating with clinical, technical, and vendor stakeholders to ensure successful implementation.
  • Develop and execute test scripts for system upgrades, patches, and new functionality; validate dictation, interface, and instrument workflows prior to go-live.
  • Provide day-to-day operational support and issue resolution for Pathologists, Pathologists' Assistants, and laboratory staff using Beaker AP.
  • Document workflows, build decisions, and standard operating procedures to support ongoing system governance and staff training.
  • Participate in on-call or after-hours support rotations as needed to support critical laboratory operations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Epic Beaker AP Certification highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Anatomic Pathology workflows, Data Innovations, HL7 interfaces, and Windows systems.
  • Experience with cassette engravers, slide etchers, and specimen label build.
  • Knowledge of Specimen Navigator/VCN workflow and build.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Epic Beaker AP or comparable laboratory information systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of Anatomic Pathology laboratory workflows.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting AP laboratory equipment such as cassette engravers and stainers.
  • Understanding of procedural workflows that route specimens to Pathology, including Surgery, Endoscopy, and Radiology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major course work in computer science, Information Technology, engineering, or equivalent related experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in clinical, business, or other healthcare operational areas or 7 years no degree.
  • This position requires that the appropriate Epic certification be successfully obtained for a specific area of assigned responsibility within the first 90 days of completing training if not obtained prior to hire.
  • Working knowledge and subject matter expertise in the assigned operational department areas.
  • Knowledge and Abilities:
    • Advanced oral and written communication skills with a diverse population
    • Advanced organizational, problem-solving, analytical, and time management skills.
    • Advanced interpersonal skills to interact positively and productively with teams across organizational lines.
    • Creative problem-solver with strong focus on achieving objectives within prescribed timelines while maintaining quality standards and organization requirements.
    • Flexibility to manage multiple initiatives and shift priorities based on business needs.
    • Monitors and mentors other analysts in methods and processes and implementation of those methods.
    • Manages complex projects independently.
