Description
Main Objective:
Develop an HSEQ culture that is increasingly preventive and independent in relation to the maturity stage, as well as to continuously improve HSEQ results and strengthen the area as a technical department capable of supporting the demands and needs of other areas and processes, ensuring an increasingly safe work environment for all employees, customers, and service providers.
Key responsibilities:
- Identify, eliminate, and control hazardous conditions that could lead to injuries and property damage by applying safety standards, best management practices, and analytical techniques.
- Be responsible for the effectiveness of HSEQ strategies in achieving the intended results.
- Serve as a fully integrated member of the site management team and a stakeholder in the site’s business, rather than as a consultant, service provider, or management advisor.
- Ensure that HSSEQ expectations are clearly communicated and understood by everyone on site.
- Develop and conduct training on local regulations and company policies.
- Conduct a workplace analysis, determine employee exposure, and establish safe work procedures.
- Conduct daily HSSEQ inspections, document findings, and implement corrective actions.
- Keep all required documentation related to HSSEQ issues up to date across the entire site.
- Conduct incident investigations and facilitate a return to normal operations.
- Manage day-to-day operations in accordance with objectives and goals, legal requirements, and the management system, as clearly defined by the HSSEQ Manager.
- Conduct audits of work permits and risk analyses developed and implemented in the field during the execution of tasks.
- Monitor and track HSSEQ incidents, nonconformities, and safety and environmental actions through the Sphera system.
- Provide administrative support for the Integrated Management System (IMS)—reviewing documentation and storing HSEQ files.
- Prepare reports and KPI presentations for terminals and management.
- Coordinate with Operations and other HSEQ team members to conduct drills and training exercises.
- Incident Investigation—support, follow-up, interviews, field surveys, and preparation of investigation documents.
- Monitor Security Guards—compile reports on incidents, ensure compliance with guidelines, and analyze reports submitted by security guards and their impact on operations.
- Provide training to terminal staff on topics from the training matrix to meet monthly and annual objectives.
- Conduct and participate in Daily Safety Briefings (DDS) during shift changes.
Education:
- Occupational Safety Technician or related engineering fields.
Languages and computer skills (Level: Advanced/Intermediate/Basic)
- English: Intermediate
- Office: Advanced
Experience:
- Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in Occupational Safety field.
- Experience working for multinational companies with chemical plants that handle flammable liquids and/or explosives.
- Certification and/or maintenance audits for ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and BASC.
Knowledge, skills and competencies:
- ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and BASC.
- Integrated Management System (IMS)
- Collaborate with other departments within the company.
- Strong communication skills.
- Training instructor skills (Theoretical and Practical)
- Knowledge of occupational safety standards (NFPA, NRs, Decree-Law 14390/92, etc.)
- Advanced knowledge of emergency management (fires, chemical spills, first aid, rescue of people in confined spaces, etc.).
Documents required for the position:
- Category A, B, or C Safety Certificate.
- Professional Category B Driver’s License.
- Technical degree in Occupational Safety or Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety, or other engineering fields such as Electrical, Mechanical, or Production Engineering, etc.
Key relations:
- Internal: Operations, Maintenance, Laboratory, HR, Finance.
- External: Service providers, customers, government officials, and representatives of local industry.
