Description

Assist in the planning and coordinating of Motorcoach and Paratransit activities and operations within the Operations Division of the Transit Department; assist in the coordination of assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the general public; provide assistance to Transit Supervisors; assist in monitoring compliance of drivers' duties and documentations.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essentialfunctions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Mustbe able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without areasonable accommodation.

  1. Assist in the coordination of organization, staffing and operational activities for assigned Motorcoach/paratransit operations and services including monitoring the safety and performance of Motorcoach/paratransit operators.
  2. Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities.  Assist in the implementing resulting policies, procedures, and directives.
  3. Obtain and maintain required Motorcoach and paratransit certifications.
  4.  Perform all applicable driving and non-driving Motorcoach and/or paratransit duties on an occasional basis, or at the direction of Transit Management.
  5. Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures; identify resource needs; review with appropriate management staff; implement improvements.
  6. Provide input into the work plan for assigned Motorcoach/paratransit services; assign work activities and projects, as appropriate; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
  7. Coordinate City and special events with outside agencies; design alternative detours and routes for area affected; be present and provide extended service during special events.
  8. Assist in the selection, training, motivation and evaluation of Motorcoach/paratransit personnel; assist in the provision and/or coordination of staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; initiate, recommend, and implement discipline procedures.
  9. Provide staff assistance to higher level supervisory or management staff; participate on a variety of committees; prepare and present staff reports and other correspondence as appropriate and necessary.
  10. Respond to and investigate a variety of emergencies, accidents, and other related incidents.
  11. Participate in coordinating transit activities with other divisions and outside agencies and organizations.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of transit services.
  2. Participate in professional development programs to enhance leadership concepts and skills.
  3. Assist in the preparation of analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
  4. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in business; and

Three (3) years of transit operator experience.  

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a valid City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with a Passenger (P) endorsement within a three (3) week period from completion of City CDL training.
Must be able to maintain CDL once obtained.
Must pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam and required drug testing.

Environmental:

Office environment, field environment, exposure to smoke, fumes, gases, hazardous materials.

Physical:

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time in the operation of motorized equipment and vehicles.
