Position Overview
Promesa Academy Charter School is seeking a caring, dependable, and student-focused Self-Contained Instructional Aide to support students receiving special education services in a self-contained classroom setting.
The Instructional Aide will work under the direction of the classroom teacher and campus administration to provide academic, behavioral, personal, and daily living support. The ideal candidate will demonstrate patience, professionalism, flexibility, and a strong commitment to helping students achieve greater independence and success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist the classroom teacher with the implementation of instructional activities, accommodations, modifications, and individualized education program requirements.

Provide individual and small-group academic support under the direction of the classroom teacher.

Reinforce instruction in reading, mathematics, communication, social skills, functional academics, and daily living skills.

Support students with classroom routines, transitions, organization, and task completion.

Assist with the implementation of behavior intervention plans and positive behavior-support strategies.

Monitor students closely to maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

Collect and document student performance, behavior, and progress data as directed by the classroom teacher.

Help prepare instructional materials, classroom activities, visual supports, and learning stations.

Assist students with mobility, positioning, feeding, toileting, hygiene, and other personal-care needs when required.

Support students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, electives, transportation, field trips, and other school activities.

Use appropriate communication strategies and assistive technology to support student participation.

Maintain student confidentiality and comply with special education laws, policies, and procedures.

Collaborate professionally with teachers, related-service providers, administrators, and other instructional staff.

Participate in required training, staff meetings, professional development, and campus activities.

Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or campus administration.
Minimum Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent.

Educational aide certification, or eligibility to obtain certification as required by the State of Texas.

Ability to work effectively with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.

Strong communication, organization, patience, and teamwork skills.

Ability to follow instructional plans, safety procedures, and staff directions.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Ability to perform the physical responsibilities of the position, including assisting students with mobility and personal-care needs when required.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Previous experience working as an instructional aide, paraprofessional, caregiver, or special education support professional.

Experience working in a self-contained special education classroom.
-
Knowledge of positive behavior supports, de-escalation strategies, and data collection.
-
Experience supporting students with communication, behavioral, medical, mobility, or personal-care needs.
-
CPR, first aid, or crisis-prevention training.

Bilingual English/Spanish skills are preferred but not required.
