Job Summary

Responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the power facility while assigned on shift. Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical equipment, electrical equipment and instrumentation. This equipment includes, but is not limited to the gas turbine, steam turbine, generators, heat recovery steam generator, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, diesel generators and other auxiliary equipment. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the Operations Superintendent in the safe and proper operation of the combined cycle generating facility with minimal guidance or assistance.
• Competently operate and maintain all plant equipment.
• Capable of operating plant equipment locally via computerized interfaces.
• Communicate plant issues to the Operations Superintendent, keeping him fully informed of plant operations, unusual conditions, and faulty equipment.
• Fully support corporate and plant safety programs, policies, and procedures.  Contribute to safety performance by participation in plant safety meetings and training. 
• Use the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS - Maximo) by displaying a proficiency in using the system commitment to the facility maintenance philosophy. 
• Thoroughly record equipment problems in the CMMS via work requests and documents maintenance actions taken on work order forms.
• Handle corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high quality manner.
• Display diligence in documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering.
• Read meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions.
• Visually inspect and listen to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
• Provide detailed status of plant conditions to fellow O&M technicians at shift turnover.
• Perform water chemistry analysis on HRSGs and cooling tower systems.
• Ensure water chemistry is within proper control ranges.
• Make adjustments to water chemistry, as needed, by controlling chemical feed and/or blowdown rates.
• Work with plant staff and water treatment vendor to properly monitor overall chemistry program.
• Operate demineralized water system in accordance with plant procedures. 
• Monitor demineralized water system to ensure quality is within acceptable limits.
• Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to operate, maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within acceptable parameters.
• Maintain equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, gauges, etc. and cleaning, replacing, oiling and lubricating other component parts and equipment as required.
• Open and close valves as required for proper system operation and mechanical isolation.
• Operate circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
• Perform capital project and/or program responsibilities as assigned by Plant Management.
• Operates various tools and instruments to repair parts and equipment. Operates welding and cutting equipment.
• Diagnose cause of malfunction or failure of operational equipment. Dismantle, repair, replace, and examine defective parts for root cause determination. 
• Support the plant Preventive Maintenance program by performing inspections, lubricating and cleaning equipment, and changing filters.
• Use test equipment to calibrate and repair plant instrumentation and electrical circuits.
• Assist in troubleshooting and inspecting programmable logic controllers, plant control systems and distributive control systems including control card replacement and wiring terminations.
• Identify and resolve Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) problems. Assist in performing calibrations and gas bottle change outs.
• Read, understand and comply with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs. 
• Monitor and ensure compliance of all plant environmental permits.
• Work shift hours, overtime, and irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility.
• Perform general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the facility.
• Maintain the cleanliness of all areas of the plant.
• Maintain proficiency in the O&M Technician classification.
• Assist and perform reasonable tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications for Position

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 3-5 years prior power plant or other similar industry (refinery or production plant) experience.
• Basic computer skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to use various hand/power driven and hydraulic tools and machinery.
• Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, manuals, and procedures.
• Basic mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge.
• Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency or stressful situation.
• Valid jurisdictional driver’s license
• Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and overtime
• Ability to work both indoors and outdoors, requiring physical activity, including climbing ladders, bending, twisting, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in areas that may be noisy, cold, hot, dirty and able to wear personal protective equipment.
• Ability to meet appropriate physical requirements as determined by corporate Health & Safety Department as prerequisites to perform certain tasks or training activities, for example, pulmonary function testing for respiratory protection

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position 

• Associate’s Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college to technical school; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and/or education are preferred

$49.75 - $49.75
