Job Description Summary:

Provides leadership and direction to assigned group within established objectives and policies. Ensures coordinated working relationships among staff, physicians and other hospital departments through the alignment of resources with patient /customers and staff needs. Promotes Service Excellence to improve patient care and customer service. Solves problems and make decisions using a consensus-based solution that serves the patient / customer, physicians and staff. Secures the organization’s long-term ability to serve. Recruits the best people to serve our patients/customers.

Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:

Job Specifications:

Education:

  • Sufficient education to obtain a valid California RN license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred with a concentration in Perioperative Nursing from an accredited nursing program.

Experience:

  • Demonstrates at least 5 years experience in:
    • Area of clinical specialty
    • Formulating annual budgets (operating and capital)
    • Progressive Supervisory or Personnel management
  • Familiarity with agency and regulatory compliance in-patient care delivery systems.
     

License and Certifications:

  • California RN license (RN) required at hire.
  • Integrative Agitation Management (IAMTAC) required within 30 days of hire.
  • Certified Nurse Operating Rm (CNOR) preferred at hire.

Prerequisite Skills:

  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a diverse staff, physicians and outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels of Hospital personnel and external customer.
  • Demonstrates ability to set priorities, achieve objectives, solve problems, meet deadlines, coordinate simultaneous projects and make decisions.
  • Demonstrates clinical and technical skills in patient care delivery
  • Expert knowledge of key perioperative standards and compliance specifications (AORN, ASPAN, AAMI, Title-22, OSCHA, etc.)
  • Experience within a union environment
  • Experience in data management and analysis preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of management and leadership theories
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated oral and written skills
  • Ability to read, write, understand and follow English verbal and written instructions

  • Monitors and updates patient classification system
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of nursing standards that meet or exceed regulatory requirements (Professional, Regulatory, Government)
  • Evaluates knowledge, skills and competencies of nursing staff and works with CNS and Staff development to assure clinical expertise
  • Develops and maintains ongoing quality assurance and continuous quality improvement programs, consistent with The Joint Commission.
  • Implementation and maintenance of scope of practice and clinical standards for department
  • Implementation of a risk management program to prevent, minimize or correct risks to patients and staff based on hospital policy and procedure
  • Promotion of a collaborative practice with other health care disciplines to assure an integrated approach to care of the patient and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrates commitment to open communication and service through a willingness to create a positive, caring environment
  • Interpretation and representation of Intensive Care Unit to other hospital departments, medical staff and community
  • Ensures that policy and procedure manuals are current and reflect community, national and organizational standards
  • Values learning and recognition by striving to achieve even higher levels of success in self and others

  • Assists with preparation for external agencies review
  • Assists with Business Plans for new services
  • Assists with coaching and mentoring key staff (direct and indirect reports)
  • Assists with maintaining high physician satisfaction with patient care and efficient systems
  • Assists with preparing information needed in the management of Intensive Care services
  • Assists in preparation of and actively participates in medical staff, governance and department committees
  • The Clinical Nurse Manager must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed
  • Must be able to meet the clinical expectations of the RN position description when necessary
  • Implementation and maintenance of nursing standards
  • Provision of support for critically ill patients and their families
  • Demonstration of uncompromising ethics and personal integrity by adhering to the highest standards of ethical behavior
  • Incorporation of current research, new interventions and technological advances into nursing practice
  • Competent use of the Nursing Process in the delivery of direct patient care

Compensation:

The posted pay range complies with applicable law and reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. Individual pay is set by skills, experience, qualifications, and internal/market equity, consistent with MarinHealth’s compensation philosophy. Positions covered by collective bargaining agreements are governed by those agreements.
