The Office Director provides strategic leadership and overall management of the Australia-Pacific office, overseeing the development and delivery of Climate Analytics’ work across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The role is responsible for setting and implementing the regional strategy, ensuring it is aligned with the organisation’s global mission, programme priorities, and commitment to limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
The Office Director leads the strategic positioning of Climate Analytics in Australia and the region, ensuring the relevance, quality, and impact of the office’s analytical and policy outputs and positioning Climate Analytics as a leading partner on climate policy across Australia and the Asia-Pacific. This includes leading content development, ensure the regional relevance of our outputs, and expand our role and influence within the region, identifying emerging opportunities, facilitating projects that align with our global mission of limiting global warming to below 1.5°C. This position requires close coordination with the Climate Policy Team to ensure alignment of methodologies, analytical approaches, and overall work programme with organisational standards and priorities.
The Office Director leads the development of a strong and sustainable project pipeline, strengthens strategic partnerships, and ensures alignment with Climate Analytics’ global mission, programme priorities, and organisational processes. The role also requires close coordination across global teams to maximise impact, leverage expertise, and contribute to organisation-wide objectives.
The Office Director is accountable for the effective management of the office, including financial oversight, operational performance, and compliance with organisational and local requirements. The role leads and develops a multidisciplinary team, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and inclusive environment, and ensuring the successful delivery of projects to a high standard.
The Office Director is expected to contribute actively to Climate Analytics’ Management Team and hence organisation-wide strategy, coordination, and decision-making, ensuring that the Australia-Pacific office both shapes and is aligned with broader institutional priorities.
Your Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Content Direction
- Lead and/or oversee the scientific and policy content of the team’s outputs, ensuring they are of high-quality, innovative, relevant, and impactful.
- Develop and implement the Australia-Pacific office strategy that aligns with the organization's global mission, objectives and content strategy.
- Identify emerging opportunities and risks, adapting strategy accordingly.
- Work closely with the leaders of Climate Analytics teams, in particular climate policy team to ensure alignment of content, methodologies and overall work programme.
- Report regularly on progress, impact, and strategic priorities to the Management Team and as appropriate Executive Team.
External Engagement and Regional Positioning
- Represent Climate Analytics Australia-Pacific in Australia and in the region and conduct outreach activities (events, media) aiming at increasing recognition and visibility of CA.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with NGOs, stakeholders, partners and donors, universities, think tanks and research organisations in the region.
- Strengthen Climate Analytics’ visibility and influence in regional climate policy and energy transition discussions.
- Travel within the region to represent the organisation and its projects, including at appropriate high-level settings.
Programme Development and Fundraising
- Lead the development of a strong, programmatic pipeline of work aligned with organisational priorities and regional needs.
- Identify and secure funding from foundations, governments, and multilateral partners.
- Develop strategic partnerships that support long-term impact and organisational positioning.
- Ensure proposals clearly articulate Climate Analytics’ value proposition, impact, and comparative advantage.
Project and Team Leadership
- Lead, manage and develop the Climate Analytics Australia-Pacific team, fostering a high-performing, collaborative, and inclusive work environment.
- Ensure successful delivery of projects, including meeting timelines, objectives, and budgets.
- Convene and lead regular team meetings and strengthen collaboration across regional and global teams.
Financial and Operational Oversight
- Oversee office finances, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with strategic priorities.
- Ensure effective financial management and reporting in coordination with the COO and Finance team.
- Monitor financial performance and ensure alignment between strategy, delivery, and resource allocation.
- Support operational systems and processes that enable efficient and compliant office functioning.
- Oversee HR and organizational matters, ensuring alignment with the organisation policies and developing strategies for personnel planning, recruitment, retention, and training.
- Lead performance management processes and support staff growth and leadership development.
Compliance and Governance
- Ensure the office contributes to and is aligned with organisational priorities, processes, and governance structures.
- Strengthen coordination with headquarters and other regional offices to maximise organisational impact.
- Act as the legal representative of the Climate Analytics Australia-Pacific under delegations from the CEO and Directors of CA Australia Ltd.
- Ensure that office operations comply with organizational policies as well as local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Oversee administrative and governance functions, including financial compliance, payroll, taxation, and Board-related processes.
Your profile
You will ideally have the following qualifications and skills.
Essential criteria
- Master’s degree in climate related studies, environmental policy, energy systems, international relations, or a related field.
- 15 years of relevant professional experience in climate policy, energy systems, or related fields, particularly in the quantitative area.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior leadership or senior management role (minimum 5 years).
- Strong track record in developing and leading climate policy or decarbonisation strategies, ideally in Australia and/or the Asia-Pacific, with a proven quantitative climate policy analysis track record and an ability to guide thought leadership skills and oversee quantitative work in the team.
- Strong understanding of Australia national and state-level energy policy and underlying political economy.
- Strong understanding of Australian advocacy and CSOs ecosystem.
- Strong overview of the climate and energy issues involved with 1.5°C pathway analysis, and an application of qualitative methods to policy analysis in this area.
- Demonstrated strong interest in the border aspects of climate policy beyond the energy space and including the transition away from fossil fuels.
- Track record of inter-disciplinary work and a profound interest in understanding and addressing international, regional, national and sub-national challenges to climate change policy.
- Strong track record in securing and managing large-scale funding and strategic partnerships.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects with budgets exceeding $1,000,000.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the region and internationally.
- Versatility and flexibility, with a high degree of comfort changing and refining priorities and targets and working across different time zones, cultures, and business practices.
- A strong commitment to the organization's mission and a demonstration of integrity and ethical conduct in professional dealings.
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in international, cross-cultural, and cross-team environments.
- Experience working in or with governments, multilateral organisations, or international climate processes.
- Experience in organisational leadership within non-profit or international organisations.
- Experience overseeing compliance processes, such as annual financial reporting, tax filings, audits, or regulatory submissions, preferably in a non-profit or international organization context.
- Experience in adaptation and resilience.
