About this Role
As a pediatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) on the Cardiac Anticoagulation Service, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team dedicated to caring for children with complex heart disease in a high-volume, dynamic heart center.
The Cardiac Anticoagulation Service is both an inpatient and outpatient consultative service. We serve an average of 100 outpatients, and our inpatient service supports an average of 63 ECMO patients and 15 VAD patients annually. In this role, you will work closely with intensivists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, pharmacists, other APPs, and nursing staff to optimize outcomes for patients requiring anticoagulation therapy and/or mechanical circulatory support.
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are accountable for the provision of patient care at the top of licensure, within their scope of practice. Licensed, credentialed and privileged to perform such duties as:
- Manage pediatric patients within the heart center requiring anticoagulation, including consultation, diagnosis, and management.
- Developed standardized practices including protocol maintenance and development
- Educate patients, patients’ families, clinical staff, and others regarding all aspects of care.
- Consult and coordinate with other healthcare providers.
- Opportunities to participate in quality improvement, clinical research, and professional development

- Located in the beautiful foothills overlooking Salt Lake Valley, Primary Children’s is the children’s hospital of Intermountain Health, and the pediatric specialty teaching hospital for the University of Utah School of Medicine.
- With more than 10+ specialty service lines at Primary Children’s, the center serves as the only provider of comprehensive care to children and adults with congenital heart disease within the Intermountain footprint.
- We are a nationally recognized Heart Center program by U.S. News and World Report.
- Within Primary Children’s Heart Center, there are more than 60+ highly skilled physicians and 30+ APPs who work to treat the most complex congenital heart conditions, and are supported by more than 400 caregivers, including medical assistants, cardiac sonographers, nurses, perfusionists, respiratory therapists, social workers, genetic counselors, child life specialists, and more.

What you’ll bring:
- Previous experience with pediatric patients is highly valued, particularly experience caring for chronic illness, medically complex cases, inpatient, and/or cardiovascular disease or mechanical circulatory support.
- Utah license as a Physician Assistant (PA) or an Advance Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
- Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Utah State Controlled Substance License
- Federal DEA Certificate II through V
- PALS and BLS Certification for Healthcare Providers
