Job Overview
Georgetown University’s Prisons and Justice Initiative (PJI) was founded in 2016 to bring together leading scholars, practitioners, and students to examine the problem of mass incarceration—one of the most crucial moral and political issues of our time. Through public events, research seminars, and programming, PJI works to better understand the causes and consequences of the mass incarceration crisis and to contribute to bipartisan solutions for effective reform. PJI’s programs offer transformative education and training to open doors for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals in Washington, D.C. and Maryland.
The Making an Exoneree Casework and Advocacy Associate (MAE CAA) provides remote and onsite program support and coordination for the Making an Exoneree Course at Georgetown College of Arts and Sciences, formally titled GOVX 4000 (Prison Reform Project), and across each of Making an Exoneree’s partner schools, in partnership with Georgetown Law’s Practicum course (LAWJ-1838-05).
The primary functions of this role will be case review, program coordination, and course support.
Work Interactions
The MAE Casework and Advisory Associate reports to Marc Howard, Director of the Prisons and Justice Initiative and one of the faculty members who leads the Making an Exoneree course at Georgetown. The MAE CA also works closely with faculty and graduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences and the GU Law Center during case review in the fall and the implementation of the course in the spring and with staff and students at MAE partner organizations.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and up to 1 year of relevant experience required, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Demonstrated interest in working with incarcerated and returning citizens, especially those impacted by wrongful conviction; experience working with prisons and/or programs for returning citizens preferred
- Strong research skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple competing priorities/projects; strong organizational and time management skills; detail oriented.
- Ability to use Adobe Creative Suite, Google Suite, Airtable, and Box preferred.

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$44,022.00 - $73,406.80Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
